In situ observation of the periodical domain structure formation in KTiOPO4

The strain‐induced periodical domain inversion in KTiOPO4 (KTP) has been demonstrated in situ by means of the nonlinear light diffraction. The temperature of 730 °C was found to be the starting point of the opposite sign domains growth under the heating of −Z KTP substrate (rate 70 °C/s) with the periodical SiO2 mask. The depth of the fabricated domain‐reversed structure of the 5.5 μm period was measured to be 4.5 μm.

Volume phase diffraction gratings in a KTP crystal

A method for the fabrication of volume phase diffraction gratings in a KTP (potassium titanyl phosphate) crystal was developed. Gratings with a period of 5 μm and a depth of 150 μm were obtained. A study was made of the characteristics of these gratings. The diffraction efficiency was found to depend on the direction of the plane of polarization of the incident beam relative to the grating lines. The Bragg diffraction of light characterized by rotation of the plane of polarization by 90° was observed.

A picosecond actively mode-locked C; YAG:Nd-laser with the axial interval 20 ns (larger than typical) and high efficiency was developed. It is possible to use such laser in time resolved laser spectroscopy and picosecond technology.
