A physical model of a copper vapor laser pumped by a pulse-periodic inductive (electrodeless) discharge is considered. The feasibility of efficient laser pumping by an inductive discharge and reaching high output parameters comparable to those of conventional copper vapor lasers pumped by a longitudinal electrode discharge is demonstrated. The design and physical features of an inductive copper vapor laser with an annular working volume are discussed.

Copper vapor laser (CVL) excitation by a pulse-periodic inductive (electrodeless) discharge was numerically studied. The first results of calculations are presented, physical conditions and design parameters at which CVL pumping by an inductive discharge can be implemented are analyzed.

We present the results of numerical experiments considering the physical processes specific to the laser based on self-terminating atomic transitions of copper and study of the output characteristics of this laser numerically. The laser is pumped by trains of high-frequency (10−70 MHz) current oscillations with the repetition rate of 2−30 kHz. Inductive-type electrodeless discharge pumping is regarded. The calculations were carried out for a small set of the specified basic parameters providing a way to partially optimize the performance of the laser over its basic output characteristics and to reveal its features. The feasibility of efficient laser pumping by high-frequency discharge is demonstrated. In our numerical experiments the maximum value of the physical efficiency was about 6% and the maximum average laser output power was as high as 174 W. These values were obtained for a discharge chamber with a volume of 1.7 L.

We present new results on numerical investigation of characteristics of pulse-periodic inductive copper vapour lasers. In these lasers pump pulses are trains of high-frequency (~ 30 MHz) current oscillations repeated at a frequency of 2-17 kHz. An inductive laser with an annular working volume of 1.7 l was considered and its possible output parameters were studied. We analyze specific features of working medium excitation in an HF-discharge; diversity of the obtained laser pulse shapes and possible applications are discussed as well.

We present experimental data on composition, morphology, and certain optical properties of nanostructures of molybdenum oxides (MoOx). We show that, upon ablation in water, molybdenum oxides are predominantly synthesized as amorphous masses containing particles (clusters), below 1–2 nm in size, and foam-like structures. We note that the gas bubbles (occurring in the liquid during ablation) might serve as templates for hollow quasi-spherical formations observed in the experiment.

A number of results of experimental studies of physical properties of nanostructures of oxides of transition metals, i.e., zirconium (Zr) and molybdenum (Mo), obtained by laser ablation of metal targets in water are presented. The structure, morphology, and some optical characteristics are studied. It is shown that Zr and Mo oxides are synthesized under these conditions mostly as amorphous masses containing particles less than 1–2 nm in size, of which large nanostructures and hollow quasi-spheres are formed.
