Several modifications of dielectric gratings are studied by the mode matching technique, which was shown to be quite adequate for the analysis of such structures in our previous works. These modifications include a socalled metal-dielectric grating, i.e., a dielectric grating, in which the inner faces of the rods are covered with a thin conducting layer, and a matched dielectric grating. The former grating is paid especial attention because of its unique frequency-selective properties.

Investigations of the dielectric properties of sugar solutions, as well as blood imitators and blood, in the millimeter-wave range allow one to obtain valuable information on the possibility of real-time control of glucose concentration in blood using electromagnetic waves in the millimeter-wave ranges. These investigations are also of interest for other applications.

The objective of this paper is to investigate the dielectric properties of epsiv for glucose solutions in water, an imitator of blood, for blood, and for skin using new nondestructive method as well as to investigate the possibility of using millimeter waves for sugar (glucose) concentration control in human blood, including non-invasive control

In this paper, we consider the possibility of significantly increasing the measurement accuracy for the content of MDF in fuel practically without adjustment for temperature by measuring the absorption of millimeter waves in a fuel blend. The measurement technique is similar to that applied in measuring moisture in oils [2]. To find out such a possibility, we investigated the dielectric properties of BDF in the frequency range from 80 to 90 GHz. The properties of MDF were investigated earlier in [2]. The real part n of the complex refractive index of BDF at frequency of 81.7 GHz is determined by measuring the reflection coefficient from a metal plate placed in a teflon measurement cell filled with fuel.

Dielectric properties of biodiesel fuel, as well as its blends with conventional mineral diesel fuel are investigated experimentally. It is shown that millimeter waves allow one to carry out real-time nondestructive control of the composition of biodiesel blends with conventional mineral fuel. The highest sensitivity to the composition of blends is exhibited by the measurement of absorption of waves in the short millimeter wave band.

Correlation between crystal structure and physical properties for Co2FeO4 spinel oxide are studied. There are two coexisting phases, Fe rich and Co rich spinels, for S80, S86, S100 samples. The S90 and S95 samples showed single phase nature. A small signature of second phase is noted for S95 sample from the temperature dependence of magnetization measurement. The single phase with single Curie temperature at about 453 K is confirmed for S90 sample. Interestingly, S95 sample showed minimum magnetic energy loss. The complex magnetic permittivity and dielectric permeability at 4.6 GHz and 7.2 GHz has been measured for all samples. There is a correlation between annealing temperature for the samples and measured electromagnetic properties.

The transmission characteristics of a longitudinally magnetized grating made of ferrite rods of rectangular cross-section are analyzed. The measurements are carried out for normal incidence of a linearly polarized wave in the frequency range from 54 to 78 GHz. The main focus is placed on the cross-polarized configuration, where the grating exhibits a phenomenon analogous to Faraday rotation at certain frequency intervals. In addition, the transmission characteristics of a metal-dielectric grating are considered that may find application in integrated and fiber optics.
