Anamorphic beam concentrator for linear laser-diode bar

An anamorphic beam concentrator for linear laser-diode (LD) bar is presented. It consists of a tapered SiO2-rod with skewed and curved surface. The principle and applicability of this device are numerically investigated by ZEMAX and experimentally illustrated for the specific example of the linear LD bar. Results show that a relative symmetrical output beam spot is produced at the output facet of the rod and the intensity and spatial fluctuations in the input beam are compensated at distance of 20cm from the output facet.

Microstructured optical fiber for in-phase mode selection in multicore fiber lasers

The mode-selection method based on a single-mode microstructured optical fiber (MOF) in the multicore fiber (MCF) lasers is presented. With an appropriate choice of the designed parameters of the MOF, the power coupling coefficient between the fundamental mode (FM) of the MOF and the in-phase mode can be much higher than those between the FM and the other supermodes. As a result, the in-phase mode has the highest power reflection on the right-hand side of the MCF laser cavity, and dominates the output laser power. Compared to the MCF lasers based on the free-space Talbot cavity method, the MCF lasers with the MOF as a mode-selection component have higher effectiveness of the in-phase mode selection.

Er 3+ /Yb 3+ co-doped optical fibers: Fabrication and characteristics

A kind of single cladding highly Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped silica optical fiber (EYDF) for optical communications is fabricated using the new MCVD process. A highly quality soot phosphosilicate layer is deposited and the high absorption fiber is fabricated by using the appropriate temperature and doping phosphorus technique. The absorption ratio of the single cladding EYDF is as high as 588.8 dB/m at 976 nm, which is much higher than that of Er3+ doped fiber (EDF). The background loss is less than 0.1dB/m at 1200nm.

The transmission characteristic of the multi-polarization controlled fiber loop mirror

The multi-polarization controlled fiber loop mirrors (FLMs) are presented and their characteristics are studied, because of the non-tunable characteristic of the wavelength interval for single-polarization controlled FLM. The multi-polarization controlled FLMs are studied theoretically with the Jones matrix. We experimentally study the single-, double- and triple-polarization FLMs, and the results show that compared with the single-polarization controlled FLM, the multi-polarization controlled FLM possesses the interval tunability and the side-frequency restriction are shown. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical results. The side-frequency restriction characteristic is shown in a ring fiber laser of double-polarization FLM and the side-mode suppression ratio is enhanced by 5 dB compared with the one of single-polarization FLM.
