Deconvolution method of atmospheric absorption spectra

Abstract The nonlinear iterative deconvolution method is discussed and difficulties in restoring the shapes of spectral lines are noted. Using Newtons iterative method and line-shape theory, an improved method is developed. Numerical experiments are described for the absorption spectra of different line shapes. The results show that our method produces satisfactory deconvolved results for both single- and multiple-line absorption spectra. When pressure broadening is dominant, we find significant improvement for the deconvolved spectra with our procedure.

Information-processing method of ground-based atmospheric remote sensing: the effective instrument function method.

A new method for atmospheric remote sensing from the ground is described. The nonlinear deconvolution method and the reference effective instrument function are used to increase the spectral resolution. The nonlinear least-squares method is used to retrieve the atmospheric parameter profile. This method can increase the measurable altitude of remote sensing and improve the precision of atmospheric inversion.

On the determination of middle atmosphere composition from high-resolution solar spectra

Abstract This paper introduces a new vertical coordinate, deduces the expressions of weighting function, and discusses the ability in measuring the middle atmosphere composition from high-resolution solar spectra. The results show that useful information on the constituents in the lower stratosphere can be given using modern conventional infrared spectrometers. However, for the measurements in the upper stratosphere and in the mesosphere, higher spectral resolutions are required.
