Equivalent circuit model for the determination of the inter‐layer thickness of SOFC composite electrode

The optimal inter‐layer thickness (l0) of an SOFC composite electrode is an important design parameter for achieving high performance. Based on the observation that the electrical processes of a composite electrode may be represented by an equivalent circuit, analytical equations are presented for the convenient determination of l0 as a function of operational conditions and electrode material properties such as the output current density, effective ionic conductivity and percolated triple phase boundary length. The analytical expressions are validated by numerical simulations without the effective circuit approximation.
