Abstract The title calixarene, tetrasodium thiacalix[4]arene tetrasulfonate, was prepared and its crystal structure was determined. Na4[thiacalix[4]arene sulfonate]·9H2O·CH3CH2OH, belongs to triclinic system, space group P1, a=10.820(5), b=14.109(6), and c=14.514(6) A , α=99.702(7), β=93.445(8), and γ=93.445(8)°, V=2174.2(16) A 3 , Z=2. The title calixarene exists in the solid state as bi-layer of anionic calixarene in the cone configuration. These layers alternate with inorganic regions which contain the sodium cations and the water molecules.

Abstract A lanthanum ternary complex {[La2(BTA)6(4,4′-bpdo)1.5]·1.5H2O}n (BTA=benzoyltrifluoroacetone, 4,4′-bpdo=4,4′-bipyridine dioxide) was prepared. Crystal analysis showed it has a unprecedented network structure. Two lanthanum ions were bridged by three terminal oxygen atoms from three 4,4′-bpdo molecules forming a binuclear coordination moiety [La2(BTA)6(4,4′-bpdo)1.5]·1.5H2O, and the latter then was linked by 4,4′-bpdo to form a complicated three-dimensional coordination network.

Abstract A new lariat crown ether ligand N , N ′-bis(3-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)-1,10-diaza-4,7,13,16-tetraoxacyclooctadecane and its copper nitrate complex have been prepared. They have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV and 1 H NMR spectroscopies. The crystal and molecular structures of [Cu(C 26 H 40 N 4 O 6 )](NO 3 ) 2 have been determined by X-ray diffraction. It belongs to the triclinic crystal system with a space group P 1. Structure analysis shows that the copper ion is coordinated to two nitrogen and two oxygen atoms of the crown ether ring and to hydroxyl oxygen atoms of the pyridine rings. The coordination polyhedron is an elongated distorted octahedron.

A zirconium complex with the p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene anion was synthesized and its crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The complex [Zr(μ2-CH3OH)(p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene)]2·9H2O (1) belongs to the orthorhombic system, space group Pnnm, with a = 20.436(16), b = 12.160(8), c = 20.305(12) Å, V = 6774(7) Å3 and Z = 2. In Complex 1 zirconium coordinates to four phenolic anions of the deprotonated p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene and is bridged by two methanol molecules; the p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene adopts a cone conformation.

A new p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene derivative, C(72)H(68)N(4)O(4)S(4) x 2CH(2)Cl(2), has been synthesized and is comprised of one tetra-p-tert-butyltetrakis(2-cyanobenzyloxy)tetrathiacalix[4]arene and two dichloromethane molecules. The calix[4]arene molecule is centrosymmetric and adopts an unusual 1,2-alternate conformation via pi-pi interactions between adjacent cyanophenyl rings on the lower rim of the parent thiacalix[4]arene system.
