Utilization of Polymer Linkage Specific Enzymes to Degrade HEC Polymer in Water Based Drilling and Gravel Packing Fluids

William Dale Wood; Ed L. Dennis; Gregory D. Dean

Significant improvements in well performance can be realized by using Polymer Linkage Specific Enzyme (PLSE) technology in drilling and gravel packing fluids during completion operations. This new technique allows adequate time to complete operations while still incorporating a highly effective breaker mechanism within the drilling fluid. Regardless of where fluid leakoff occurs within the wellbore, breaker is present. Subsequently eliminating pockets of polymer filter cake or whole polymer fluid damage often left behind with other breaker mechanisms.

A Unique Method of Evaluating Stimulation Effectiveness in Production Damaged Slotted Liners

William Dale Wood; Dan McKeon

After years of service in steamflood and cyclically steamed reservoirs, slotted liners tend to become clogged with migrating formation material and heavy asphaltene deposits. These deposits seriously restrict inflow and typically make the wells economically unproductive. Acid wash jobs performed through coiled tubing jet wash tools have been found to be extremely effective as a damage removal technique. This paper describes development, testing and preliminary findings of a test vessel which can mechanically isolate small sections of damaged slotted liners and evaluate the effectiveness of different stimulation scenarios.
