Abdulla Kulbaddan was born in Qarshi in I960, finished high school in Samarkand, graduated from the Journalism Department of Tashkent University in 1983, and began employment as a proofreader for the Samarkand district newspaper Lenin Yoli (now Zarafshan). Since 1985 he has been living in Tashkent. For the past ten years he has served as publisher and editor-in-chief at the Yazuwchi Publishing House. His first poem was printed in 1974 in a provincial newspaper. His first book, Naysan, appeared in 1988 and has been followed by three others: Huma (Bird of Paradise; 1989), Bakhtli Yol (Auspicious Way; 1991), and Khayal Kechasi (Night of Thoughts; 1994). For Bakhtli Yol he was honored with the Usman Nasir Award of the Republic Youth Union.
