Radar and Automatic Identification System Track Fusion in an Electronic Chart Display and Information System

Witold Kazimierski; Andrzej Stateczny

This paper presents the results of research on the fusion of tracking radar and an Automatic Identification System (AIS) in an Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). First, the concept of these systems according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is described, then a set of theoretical information on radar tracking and the fusion method itself is given and finally numerical results with real data are presented. Two methods of fusion, together with their parameters, are examined. A proposal for calculating the covariance matrix for radar and AIS data is also given, and the paper ends with conclusions.

Determining manoeuvre detection threshold of GRNN filter in the process of tracking in marine navigational radars

Andrzej Stateczny; Witold Kazimierski

The article presents the results of simulation research aimed at determining the manoeuvre detection threshold of a neuron filter, based on GRNN artificial neural network. The structure of a filter has been presented, from which the necessity of manoeuvre detection results and a detector has been described able to be used in this case; it is based on an analysis of course and speed increase in particular estimation steps. The research was performed by the Monte Carlo method for 100 independent simulations.

Analysis of the Possibility of Using Radar Tracking Method Based on GRNN for Processing Sonar Spatial Data

Witold Kazimierski; Grzegorz Zaniewicz

This paper presents the approach of applying radar tracking methods for tracking underwater objects using stationary sonar. Authors introduce existing in navigation methods of target tracking with particular attention to methods based on neural filters. Their specific implementation for sonar spatial data is also described. The results of conducted experiments with the use of real sonograms are presented.

Verification of multiple model neural tracking filter with ship's radar

Witold Kazimierski; Grzegorz Zaniewicz; Andrzej Stateczny

The paper presents the research focused on verification of multiple model neural filter in real environment. The filter is a result of the works in the research project and is implemented as a software application. The application is then connected to real radar making the off-line verification possible. The filter was checked against IMO requirements and was compared to other commercially used filters. Estimation errors and delay was the basis for the verification. Achieved results show that proposed solution might be an interesting alternative for numerical filters.

Optimization of multiple model neural tracking filter for marine targets

Witold Kazimierski; Andrzej Stateczny

The paper presents the research on optimizing multiple model neural filter with the use of Monte Carlo simulation. GRNN filters are used as elementary filters and different parameters of them are examined. The paper includes theoretical background of the research, analysis of a problem and a set of numerical experiments. The research was made with the use of Monte Carlo simulation. The results of the optimization can be used in further works with the filter and for final verification of the method.

Fusion of data from AIS and tracking radar for the needs of ECDIS

Witold Kazimierski; Andrzej Stateczny

The paper presents results of the research on problem of radar-AIS data fusion in ECDIS. First the concept of these systems according to IMO is provided, then a set of theoretical information concerning radar tracking and the fusion itself is given and finally numerical research with real data are presented. Two methods of decentralized fusion are examined with the analysis of their parameters. A proposal of calculating covariance matrix for radar and AIS data is given. The research are followed with the conclusions.

Exchange of Navigational Information between VTS and RIS for Inland Shipping User Needs

Witold Kazimierski

The paper presents a concept of data exchange between Vessel Traffic Services and River Information Services using Inter VTS Exchange format. The motivation is given presenting the problem of lack of communication between both parties sometimes sharing same or neighboring area of interest or administration. Further, internal data exchange processes in both systems are described. Based on undertaken research a common model of exchange is proposed using an approach to enhance IVEF with additional features available in RIS. Main changes assume improvement of data model and expanding of interaction model. Data cross-coherence map is presented and new service parameters are proposed.

Verification of marine multiple model neural tracking filter for the needs of shore radar stations

Witold Kazimierski; Jacek Lubczonek

The paper presents the research aiming at verification of multiple model neural filter in shore radar systems. Proposed method is shortly presented, the requirements of IALA for shore VTS radars are showed and the results of numerical experiment are given. According to IALA recommendation the method was tested during simulation with Monte Carlo method. PC simulator of target tracking was used. The results of experiment confirms that multiple model neural filter complies with IALA regulations. At the end future e development of the research was proposed.

Technology of Spatial Data Geometrical Simplification in Maritime Mobile Information System for Coastal Waters

Witold Kazimierski; Marta Wlodarczyk-Sielicka

Abstract The paper undertakes the subject of spatial data pre-processing for marine mobile information systems. Short review of maritime information systems is given and the focus is laid on mobile systems. The need of spatial data generalization is underlined and the concept of technology for such generalization in mobile system is presented. The research part of the paper presents the results of analyzes on selected parameters of simplification in the process of creating mobile navigation system for inland waters. In the study authors focused on selected layers of system. Models of simplification for layers with line features and with polygons were tested. The parameters of tested models were modified for the purposes of study. The article contains tabular results with statistics and spatial visualization of selected layers for individual scales.

Analysis of radar integration possibilities in inland mobile navigation

Tomasz Hyla; Witold Kazimierski

Radar image displayed over chart information can be invaluable in inland areas where spatial information is outdated, incomplete or often alternating. Not only it may show any navigational obstacles, but also detects shoreline. Existing non-professional inland mobile navigation systems provide weak capabilities for using sensors data other than for positioning purposes. In the paper, we present a few possibilities to integrate radar and other sensors into mobile navigation system to enhance its users navigation experience on inland water. In order to achieve this feature, we propose a model of radar integration into mobile navigational system for leisure craft users of inland waters. Additionally, technical and navigational aspects of radar integration was examined and suitable techniques were proposed.
