Synthesis of a functionalized cyclohepten-one from erythronic acid-4-lactone

Wolfgang Pitsch; Alex Russel; Manfred Zabel; Burkhard König

Abstract A convenient two-step synthesis of a functionalized and chiral cyclohepten-one 4 , which may serve as a useful building block in synthesis, is reported. The X-ray structure analysis of the intermediate hemiacetal 2 reveals the presence of a single anomer in the solid state, that equilibrates rapidly in solution.

Synthesis of a functionalized Diene-diyne from Butadiene-bis-epoxide

Wolfgang Pitsch; Burkhard König

The synthesis of 5,6-dihydroxy-deca-3,7-diene-1,9-diyne from butadiene-bis-epoxide and propargylic alcohol is described.

Synthesis and structure of bicyclic enediynes ia twofold carbenoid ring closure

Burkhard König; Wolfgang Pitsch; Ina Dix; Peter G. Jones

Macrobicyclic enediynes were obtained in four steps from dicarboxylic diesters. The key step of the synthesis is a twofold carbenoid ring closing procedure from acyclic precursors. Crystal structure analyses showed that bicyclo[6.6.4]dienetetrayne is not strained. Thermal analysis revealed its low thermal reactivity. An attempt to obtain bicyclo[6.6.2]dienetetrayne structures using the same method failed.

1,2:4,5-Di-O-isopropylidenegalactitol

Burkhard König; Wolfgang Pitsch; Ina Dix; Peter G. Jones

The title compound, C12H22O6, is composed of two isopropylidene rings, one with approximate m symmetry and the other with approximate C2 symmetry, joined by an extended backbone. Hydrogen bonds connect the molecules into ribbons parallel to the y axis.
