Recent catastrophic landslide events caused large human and material damages. This shows again, that there is still not enough protection against such kinds of natural hazards. In an ongoing research project a new approach to improve early warning systems of landslides is pursued: complex simulations of landslides are coupled with geoinformation systems (GIS). This allows on the one hand for a detailed investigation of unstable slopes with the help of the simulation and on the other hand for a user friendly preparation of the complex simulation results in the GIS for decision support. In this paper the interconnection between a GIS and a simulation system is briefly introduced and the main focus is put on cluster methods for the processing of the complex simulation results in a suitable way to support the user in the decision support and in the learning system, respectively.

Integrity constraints play a major role when the logical consistency of a data set has to be evaluated during quality assurance. The paper reviews established approaches of integrity constraint classification and proposes a profound categorisation which distinguishes semantic integrity constraints according to the semantic domains of the involved properties. The categorisation provides the preconditions for formalisation and the identification of conflicts and redundancies in sets of integrity constraints. Therewith the management and usability of integrity constraints will be improved which will also result an improvement of spatial data quality.

Recurring disastrous landslides cause great damage worldwide and many people were affected during the last decades. Obviously there is a strong demand for developing and improving early warning systems to save lives and properties. Although strong efforts were made in the last decade, the understanding of the hazards and the forecasting of critical events are still particularly weak points of the early warning chain. In an ongoing research project a new approach to improve these critical points in the field of early warning systems of landslides is pursued: complex finite element (FE) simulations of landslides are coupled with geoinformation systems (GIS). This chapter researches the interconnection between the GIS and the FE-Analysis system. Further, two main operational modes, the learning system and the decision support system mode, for such a coupled system are introduced and a workflow for these system is proposed and investigated in detail.
