Behavior-based formation control of multi-missiles

Mu Xiaomin; Du Yang; Liu Xing; Wu Sentang

A formation control approach for multi-missiles is presented in this paper. It integrates the Lead-Follower method into the behavior-based formation method to ensure the stability of formation. The missiles are divided into a leader and followers according to the Lead-Follower method. The behaviors of missiles contain flying to the destination, formation-hold, obstacle/collision avoidance, and then the appropriate one is chosen by the behavior inhibition selection mechanism. The behavior of flying to the destination of leader is achieved by using an optimal route planning algorithm which is based on tree topologic data and dynamic programming theory. The behaviors of formation-hold and obstacle/collision avoidance of followers are respectively achieved by using a global formation-hold control algorithm and obstacle/collision avoidance control algorithm. The digital simulation implemented has validated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Tracking of infrared radiation dim target based on mean-shift and particle filter

Chang Le; Liu Zhenghua; Wu Sentang

To effectively solve the problems of IR dim target tracking with complex background and the poorly effect of standard particle filter in this area, a complex tracking strategy based on Mean-Shift and particle filter is presented. As the combination of both advantages, the particles are sprayed over the position of maximum probability calculated by Mean-Shift algorithm for purpose of reducing the waste of particles and avoiding the loss of target. The utilization of particles is increased obviously, and thus it improves tracking procedure stability and robustness. Experiment results show that the combination algorithm can not only track dim target accurately with better real-time and tracking accuracy but also has a strong robustness for complex background interference.

An approach for cooperative navigation of multi-missiles based on wireless datalink

Liu Xing; Peng Chen; Mu Xiaomin; Du Yang; Wu Sentang

Cooperative attack of multi-missiles becomes the direction of future precision-guided weapon system. The cooperative navigation is one of the key problems for the multiple-missiles formation. The concept of autonomous formation and cooperative guidance of multi-missiles is defined. A new practical solution for cooperative navigation in missiles formation with passive angle-only measurements is presented. The nonlinear Gauss-Hermite filter algorithm is suggested for multi-missiles navigation. Simulation results show the good navigation performance of the algorithm when used in association with the proposed nonlinear “current” statistical model.

Analysis of direct thrust and aerodynamic force blended control for a saucer-shaped UAV

Xing Zhihui; Wu Sentang; Jiang Lan; Wu Xiaolong; Jia Xiang

To meet the increasing need of aviation, lifting body aircrafts have been widely used. However, this kind of aircraft usually has no vertical fin and rudder which makes it has bad lateral maneuverability. In this paper, our research object is a saucer-shaped Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which can be adequately modeled with a rigid 6-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) representation. Two direct thrust nozzles are installed on this UAV to provide yaw moment. Attainable moment set (AMS) method is used to analysis the attainable moment of this UAV. Therefore, a direct thrust and aerodynamic force blended control strategy is proposed to control this UAV with direct thrust nozzles. Compared with traditional controller, this method can improve the lateral maneuverability and response speed. The simulation results show that this blended control strategy is a good way to deal with the control problem of lifting body UAVs and also can be used in other control systems.

Seeker allocation and target assignment of multiple hetero-seeker missile formation using genetic algorithms

Wu Xiaolong; Wu Sentang; Xing Zhihui; Zhang Weijie

The problem of seeker allocation and target assignment (SATA) of multiple hetero-seeker missile formation in the anti-ship cooperative attack was investigated in this paper. A calculation model of penetration probability and a model of SATA for the missile formation attack were designed, considering the characteristics of the missile seeker, the operational process of the missile formation cooperative attack, the shipboard anti-missile weapons with the constraints of the ammunition restrictions and the target value. Then a method based on genetic algorithms (GA) was presented, with novel encoding, modified initialization, crossover and mutation operations. Simulations demonstrate the viability of the proposed method, showing that the missile formation penetration probability increases by 10% using the proposed algorithm; it could provide basis and reference for actual combat operation.

An optimization design of the weight of cost function in stochastic robustness analysis and design

Wen Yongming; Wu Sentang

The weight of cost function in Stochastic Robustness Analysis and Design reflects the emphasis on the corresponding metrics. Selecting and optimizing weights reasonably is particularly important for further highlighting the advantages of SRAD and then designing a better controller. In this paper, in allusion to serious time-consuming, blindness and other disadvantages of getting the weights by trial and error in the past, through feeding back the unacceptable probability and the cost function value which are got by simulating the system with the fixed parameters, and using the modern optimization algorithm, gradually optimize weights until getting satisfactory results. The simulation and analysis of DC motor speed control system prove this method is effective.
