Modeling of FCV powertrain using a combined forward/backward approach

This paper presents a FCV powertrain model using a combined forward/backward approach. The advantage and disadvantage of forward-facing approach and backward-facing approach is discussed and a combined approach is presented and used in the modeling of FCV powertrain. The structure of the model is identical with the typical actual FCV powertrain. The model involves with two parts: power calculation module and power splitting module. The power flow is forward-facing in the power calculation module, in which a simplified driver module is introduced, and backward-facing in the power splitting module. Fuel cell module and battery module are built with the equivalent circuit method in the model. Finally the validity and rationality of the model is verified by Chinese typical bus cycle and experimental data of a FCV bus, and the limitation of the model is put forward. The model can be used for further study on FCV powertrain.
