A pentanuclear dysprosium cluster, [Dy(5)(μ(3)-OH)(6)(Acc)(6)(H(2)O)(10)]·Cl(9)·24H(2)O (1), has been synthesized through the reaction of 1-amino-cyclohexanel-carboxylic acid (Acc) and DyCl(3)·5H(2)O. Crystal structural analysis reveals that the metal core of cluster 1 shows an unprecedented trigonal bipyramidal (TBP) geometry. Magnetic studies indicate that the Dy(5) cluster exhibits slow magnetic relaxation.

Four 3D POM-based silver coordination polymers, namely, [Ag17(ptz)11(PW12O40)2]n (1), [Ag17(ptz)11(PMo12O40)2]n (2), [Ag12(ptz)6(CN)2(SiW12O40)]n (3), and [Ag19(ptz)8(H2ptz)(H3ptz)(AgP5W30O110)·7H2O]n (4), have been obtained by solvothermal reaction of AgNO3 and 5-phenyl-1H-tetrazole (Hptz) ligand in the presence of four types of polyoxometalates. Structural analysis shows that four types of Ag(I)···π interactions, m-η(1), m/p-η(2), o/m-η(2), and o/m/p-η(3), were observed in compounds 1-4, depending on the polyoxometalates used. The in situ generated CN(-) ion in compound 3 shows unprecedented mixed σ and π bonding modes, similar to the C2(2-) ion in well-studied silver acetylides. For 4, the Na(+) ion in the Preyssler heteropolyoxoanion, [NaP5W30O110](14-), was exchanged by Ag(I) under solvothermal conditions, generating a novel [AgP5W30O110](14-) anion. In addition, the photoluminescence behavior of 1-4 was also investigated.

Three structural kinds of 3d-4f metal–organic-frameworks (MOFs), {[Ln4(ox)3(Ni(IDA)2)3(H2O)6]}n·xnH2O (Type I: LnLa, Nd, Eu, Gd; IDA = iminodiacetate, ox = oxalate), {[Ln2 (ox)(Ni(IDA)2)2(H2O)2]}n·2nH2O (Type II: LnLa, Pr, Nd, Eu) and {[Dy2(ox)2Ni(IDA)2(H2O)2]}n·2nH2O (Type III), have been synthesized under hydrothermal condition. The crystal structures consist of Ln-oxalate tetramers for Type I, dimers for Type II and one-dimensional polymers for Type III bridged by the metalloligand [Ni(IDA)2]2−. While Type I contains a mixture of “Ln6Ni4-parallelogram” (A-Type) and “Ln6Ni2-parallelogram” (B-Type) channels, Type II and Type III contain only A-type and B-type channels, respectively. A fairly high stability of the MOFs is indicated by thermogravimetric analyses and reversible dehydration and rehydration of guest water molecules, which is confirmed by single crystal-to-single crystal transformation of 1 and 5.

Guest controlled coordination framework: syntheses, crystal structures and thermal properties of two three-dimensional structures of [Ce2(adipate)3(OH2)4]·6H2O and

Zi-Guang Sun; Yan-Ping Ren; La-Sheng Long; Rong-Bin Huang; Lan-Sun Zheng

Abstract Syntheses, crystal structures and thermal properties of two three-dimensional structures of [Ce2(adipate)3(OH2)4]·6H2O (1) and [ Ce 2 ( adipate ) 3 ( OH 2 ) 4 ]·4 H 2 O ·( adipic acid ) (2) were reported. Single-crystal structures show that the central cerium(III) atom in 1 is ennea-coordinated by two bidentate adipate ligands, three monodentate adipate ligands and two water molecules; while the central cerium(III) atom in 2 is 10-coordinated by three bidentate adipate ligands, two monodentate adipate ligands and two coordinated water molecules. The difference between 1 and 2 was discussed based on the crystal structures, which shows that guest molecule can adjust pore-size of coordination polymers.

Two metal-organic frameworks constructed from nanosized Cu(20) and Cu(30) wheels have been obtained under hydrothermal conditions based on 1,2,3-triazole and 1-H-1,2,3-benzotriazole, respectively. Crystal structure analysis shows that their differences in the size and nuclearity of Cu(20) and Cu(30) wheels are attributed to the steric effect of ligands.

The influence of water on dielectric property in cocrystal compound of [orotic acid][melamine]·H2O

Hao-Ran Xu; Qn Zhang; Yan-Ping Ren; Hai-Xia Zhao; La-Sheng Long; Rong-Bin Huang; Lan-Sun Zheng

An organic cocrystal compound consisting of melamine, orotic acid and water molecules was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Investigation of its temperature- and frequency-dependent dielectric behaviors reveals that the fluctuation of hydrogen atoms of water molecules between the layers plays a key role in its dielectric anomaly.

Three homometallic high-nuclearity clusters, formulated as [(CO3)2@Ln37(LH3)8(CH3COO)21(CO3)12(μ3-OH)41(μ2-H2O)5(H2O)40]·(ClO4)21·(H2O)100 (abbreviated as Ln37, Ln = Gd (1); Tb (2); Eu (3), LH3 = 1,2,3-cyclohexanetriol) and featuring a double cage-like structure, were obtained through the reaction of 1,2,3-cyclohexanetriol, acetate ligand, and Ln(ClO4)3. The largest odd-numbered lanthanide cluster Gd37 exhibits an entropy change (-ΔSm) of 38.7 J kg-1 K-1.

A series of heterometallic 3d-4f clusters, formulated as Na17[Ln3(H2O)5NiII(H2O)3(Sb4O4)(SbW9O33)3(NiIIW6O24)(WO2)3(CH3COO)]·(H2O)65 [abbreviated as Ln3Ni2, where Ln = La3+ (1), Pr3+ (2), and Nd3+ (3)], K5Na11[Ln3(H2O)3NiII3(H2O)6(SbW9O33)3(WO4)(CO3)]·(H2O)40 [abbreviated as Ln3Ni3, where Ln = La3+ (4), Pr3+ (5), and Nd3+ (6)], and K3Na27[Ln3NiII9(μ3-OH)9(SbW9O33)2(PW9O34)3(CH3COO)3]·(H2O)80 [abbreviated as Ln3Ni9, where Ln = Dy3+ (7) and Er3+ (8)], were obtained through the reaction of the lacunary {SbW9O33} precursor with Ln(NO3)3·6H2O and NiCl2·6H2O in a NaAc/HAc buffer in the presence of different anions. Single-crystal X-ray structure analysis revealed that compounds 1-3 possessed tetrameric architectures featuring three Keggin-type {SbW9O33} and one Anderson-type {NiIIW6O24} building blocks encapsulating one {Sb4O4} cluster, three WO2 units, three Ln3+ metal ions, and two Ni2+ metal ions. Compounds 4-6 displayed cyclic trimeric aggregates of three {SbW9O33} units enveloping one CO32--templated trinuclear [Ln3(CO3)]7+ and one WO42--templated [NiII3(WO4)]+ unit. Compounds 7 and 8 exhibited unique pentameric architectures that featured three 3d-4f cubane clusters of {LnNi3(μ3-OH)3} capped by two {SbW9O33} and three {PW9O34} building blocks. Interestingly, the structural regulation of the heterometallic 3d-4f clusters in the polyoxometalate systems with trimers, tetramers, and pentamers was realized by introducing different anions.
