We reported a nano-Ag/liquid crystalline elastomer(LCE) nanocomposite by incorporating silver nanoparticles into a monodomain polysiloxane-based LCE matrix via a novel experimental protocol. The photo-thermo-mechanical actuation of the LCE matrix was realized via the surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles while converting light into heat. The photoresponsive properties of nano-Ag/LCE nanocomposites were investigated with varying illumination intensities and silver nanoparticle doping concentrations(0.04% to 0.2%, mass fraction). The nano-Ag/LCE nanocomposites show sensitive deformation under irradiation due to their excellent photo-thermal conversion efficiency, and this photostimulated muscle-like actuation is fully reversible via the on-off behavior of light. Incorporating silver nanoparticles into the LCE matrix also improves the mechanical properties and enhances the load-actuation capability of the material.

Abstract First principles calculations have been performed to investigate the structure, electronic and optical properties of Y3Fe5O12. Both the cubic and trigonal phases have been considered in our calculation. The calculated structural parameters are slightly larger than the experimental values. The band structures show that Y3Fe5O12 in cubic and trigonal phases have direct band gaps of 0.65 and 0.17 eV. The calculations of dielectric function, absorption, extinction coefficient, refractive index, energy loss function and reflectivity are presented.

In order to improve the all kind of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) demodulation system, we make-up a fiber grating temperature demodulation system, which is consist of fiber tunable F-P filter, signal-generation, tunable voltage source and oscilloscope. The temperature signal of three FBG with different center wavelength is demodulated, and the system is demonstrated to be with sensing sensitivity of 10.47mV/°C, 10.16 mV/°C, 10.48 mV/°C. The structure of the system is very simple and easy to be realized.

The basic principles of Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) multiplexing technique addressing the distributed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors were studied, and the theoretical analysis of FBG multiplex distance were carried out; In order to analyze the impact on the spectrum signal, when the FBG multiplex distance is integer or non-integer multiple of system minimum resolution distance, for the FMCW multiplexing scheme was simulated. Finally, the related experimental system was established and the results are consistent with the theory.
