based virtual laboratories are promising to save experimental cost, to avoid danger, and to support collaboration and resource sharing. This paper discusses the theoretic basis for the design of web-based virtual laboratories, proposes four key design issues, including the design of virtual experimental instruments, the design of virtual experimental contexts, the design of virtual tutor, and the design of virtual operations.

Context-awareness involved in e-learning includes awareness to knowledge context, awareness to social context, and awareness to technical context. This study proposes the use of context-awareness for personalized learning content recommendation in e-learning environments, and discusses the key steps in the recommendation mechanism.

This paper discusses the theoretical basis for the design of an online community of teaching practice for pre-service teachers, and presents a conceptual community model under a perspective from SECI model. Social members, knowledge, teaching practice, and technology are recognized as the key components of the online community of teaching practice, and the SECI model is utilized to explain the knowledge transformation within the community. The identification of a relatively stable knowledge domain, the recognition of appropriate context, and the promotion of the distribution and integration of community resources are proposed as the indispensable issues for nurturing an online community of teaching practice.

Computers can play multiple roles in human learning and facilitated human learning processes by providing technical, cognitive, and social support. This paper discusses knowledge management in computer-supported learning, explores the knowledge management process in learning process, and suggests how to better support knowledge management in computer-supported learning.

Immature blended learning systems are often technology-intensive rather than knowledge-intensive or human-oriented. Most attentions on blended learning have been substantially poured to technology-mediated e-learning. This paper discusses some issues on blended learning beyond technology introduction, including the objectives of blending in terms of knowledge creation, skill development, personality development and social development, and contexts involved in blended learning beyond technical mediation.

Based on the recognition of context for physics teaching in current middle schools, this paper reports a web-based virtual lab (IWVL) for junior high schools’ physics experimental teaching. The theoretical foundations for system design, system architecture, functional characteristics, experimental platforms, and four usage scenarios of IWVL are highlighted in the discussions.
