One Chip Servo System LSI for Home VCR

Yasunori Kobori; Isao Fukushima; Hideo Nishijima; Noboru Horie; Kenji Kaneko

The home VCR is steadily gaining world-wide popu- larity with its high performance and low cost, and now is considered one of the most important home electronic appliances. Since the VCR employs a large number of electronic components, it tends to be quite complicated. To avoid this complication as well as to improve its performance and reliability, its a must to simplify the circuits. The most effective way to achieve this is to reduce the number of components through extensive use of ICs in electronic circuits. Also this approach will be most effective for portable-type VCRs which must be of compact and light-weight design.

We have developed a 300 dpi A4-size printer using the TDT method for desk-top publishing images including pictures and characters. This printer consists of an engine part and an interface part. They are connected through a VME (Versa Module Europe) bus. The engine part has density compensation for keeping high uniformity and works as a one line printer. The interface part includes SCSI and Centronics I/F with 1 or 4 color plane memories. The most useful function is that it can print any length of paper size, for example A4/A5 size, letter size, U.S. legal size, or any longer size for a panoramic image.

A new concept of home use video printer in thermal dye transfer method

Yasunori Kobori; O. Hattori; Toshihiko Gotoh; Hiroyuki Kimura; Koichi Tomatsuri; K. Hanma

A high-quality video printer for home use has been developed using a thermal dye transfer (TDT) method. By using new ink, a maximum density of over 2.3 and a wide color-reproduction range have been realized. Precisely controlling the print density, tau data at any temperature are calculated by microcomputer using key data. A combination print system which cooperates with the VCR in order to catch the best shot from continuous moving pictures of the VCR has been developed. >
