Biological Applications of Stimulated Parametric Emission Microscopyand Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy

Two types of newly developed nonlinear-optical microscopy are presented, namely, stimulated parametric emission (SPE) microscopy and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy, together with their biological applications. These techniques allow high-resolution 3D visualization of unstained living cells. SPE microscopy is also applied to time-lapse observation of dividing cells as well as simultaneous observation of fluorescence emitted from labeled organelles and SPE signal.

Ultrafast Laser Microfabrication of Photonic Devices inside Glass

We review the technique of microfabrication inside glass, focusing on the fabrication of photonic devices and the microwelding of glass. We also present temperature analysis of the processed region based on time-resolved Raman spectroscopy.

Novel processes in laser microfabrication and microjoining

When ultrafast laser pulses are focused inside a bulk of transparent material, nonlinear absorption occur, which can be used for microfabrication and microwelding. We review our recent development on this technique.
