Densification mechanism of warm compaction and powder mixture designing rules

Cao Shun-hua; Huang Bai-yun; Qu Xuanhui; Yi Jianhong

By phenomenological analysis of warm compaction, it is found that, compared with the contribution of particle plastical deformation to densification of powder compact, the particle rearrangement is a dominant densification mechanism for powder warm compaction, and the plastical deformation of particles plays an important role in offering accommodating deformation for particle rearrangement and densifying powder compact at the final stage of pressing. In order to attain density gain as high as possible during warm compaction, six rules for designing warm-compacting powder mixtures were proposed in detail.

Synthesis of superconductor MgCNi3 with carbon nanotubes

Xia Qinglin; Yi Jianhong; Peng Yuandong; Luo Shu-dong; Wang Hong-zhong; Li Liya

MgCNi3, an intermetallic compound superconductor with a cubic perovskite crystal structure, has been synthesized using fine Mg and Ni powders and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as starting materials by the conventional powder metallurgy method. The composition, microstructure and superconductivity are characterized using x-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer. The results indicate that the phases of the synthesized samples are MgCNi3 (major phase) and traces of C and MgO. The MgCNi3 particle sizes range from several hundreds of nanometres to several micrometres. The onset superconducting transition temperature Tc of the MgCNi3 sample is about 7.2K. The critical current density Jc is about 3.44 × 104 A/cm2 calculated according to the Bean model from the magnetization hysteresis loop of the slab MgCNi3 sample at 5K and zero applied field.

Evolution of soliton-like train in Klein--Gordon lattice system

Xia Qinglin; Yi Jianhong; Peng Yuandong; Ye Tu-Ming; Li Liya; Wang Hong-zhong

This paper studies the evolution of wave in the system of a pure anharmonic lattice with a double well on-site potential by numerical calculation. It finds that an initial distribution of static or moving wave can evolve into two travelling soliton-like trains with contrary directions and a region of oscillation in this lattice system. It presents that some cases with cosine-square-shape and Gaussian-shape initial distribution of static or moving wave will produce ordered soliton-like train. Careful numerical observation shows that the centre oscillation region in this system may act as a resource of generating soliton-like train.

Thermodynamic analysis on synthesis process of diamond

Yi Jianhong; Peng Yuandong

Based upon the thermodynamic analysis of the nucleation of diamond crystal, the effects of synthesis temperature and pressure on the nucleation of diamond crystal, diamond growth and output of diamond crystal, particle size and strength were discussed. The results show that the excess pressure has an important effect on the critical radius of nucleation and thermodynamic barrier in the formation of a critical nucleus. Considering the excess pressure, the expression of diamond nucleation rate was obtained.

INTERNAL STRESS MECHANISM OF CARBON TRANSMISSION UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURE AND HIGH PRESSURE

Yi Jianhong; Li Qiang; Zou Lianlong

The problem was found that the nucleation and growth of diamond are different on each side of flaky catalyst in the cubic high pressure diamond synthesis system. Some theories explainning this difference were introduced in the paper. The synthesis cavity and the forces on flaky ctalyst were analysed. The results show that the stress makes the transmission velocity of carbon different on each side of catalyst slice, which causes the difference of nucleation density of diamond between two sides of the slice.
