Based on the end user’s exact location, providing useful information and location based services (LBS) through wireless pervasive devices at right place and right time could be beneficial to both businesses and their customers. However, the adoption rates of these location-aware pervasive services from the consumption side are still low, implying that there might be some reasons keeping the potential users away from using LBS. This research attempted to find out such reasons by investigating what factors would negatively influence users’ adoption of LBS. A hybrid approach, integrating a qualitative method, ZMET, with the quantitative data analysis of the samples collected from a subsequent questionnaire survey, was designed and implemented in this study to elicit and validate potential LBS users’ in-depth feelings. Our study results show that cost, worry of security & privacy Issues, worry of quality of LBS information, and lack of cognition of LBS are the barriers impeding mobile service users’ adoption of LBS applications. Our findings can be referenced by service providers for the purpose of the design and development of successful business applications to catch the revolutionary opportunity and benefit of LBS.

Purpose – This study attempts to list and rank the necessary skills required of a global logistics professional based on objective evaluations from industry.Design/methodology/approach – This paper adopts a novel mixed‐methods approach using elements of concept mapping (brainstorming, multi‐dimensional scaling, cluster analysis), and link analysis. Concept mapping through repeated brainstorming by industry practitioners helps to summarize the key skill required of an effective global logistician. The multidimensional scaling method and cluster analysis support the classification and weighting of the capabilities into nine clusters. Link analysis helps to evaluate the significance of the results and addresses the gap between industry and academic perceptions of the existing global logistics curriculum in Taiwan.Findings – In dealing with globalization, a logistician needs to be able to integrate, communicate, and analyze from an international perspective, perform financial analysis, maintain good industry ...

To cope with the fact of high competitiveness in tourism industry, some travel agencies are adopting the strategy of providing relatively more abundant and higher quality services to their clients. Since prior research has found that lack of information is one of the main barriers for people to travel, provide location-based information to people visiting and staying at a new location should be useful and valuable. This research attempts to find out travelers’ attitude toward location-based service (LBS). “What factors will affect the travelers’ willingness to adopt this new service” is what we tried to find out in this research. Our findings shows that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and security & privacy are associated with travelers’ attitude toward using LBS, but location information, context awareness, and device functions are not. Our findings can be referenced by tourism industry for the purpose of the design and development of successful business applications to catch the revolutionary opportunity and benefit of LBS.

Abstract Entrepreneurship has gained increasing research attention in recent years. Although researchers largely agree the importance of innovation in the process of entrepreneurship, little research explores how the emerging innovation approaches can facilitate the above process. Furthermore, there is a lack of studies on entrepreneurship adopting the open platform strategy in light of the digital evolution. To address this research gap, this study investigates how entrepreneurs can take advantage of the platform-based innovation ecosystem in the entrepreneurial process. First, the study discusses various platform-based innovations for entrepreneurs and elaborates on the implementation with examples and practices. Accordingly, the study demonstrates a framework which categorizes these innovation platforms to fulfill the needs at two pivotal stages of the innovation process (i.e. invention and commercialization) for entrepreneurs. The study also discusses the concerns and issues an innovation platform ecosystem may bring forth for entrepreneurs. Finally, the study proposes a number of topics that merit further research. This study represents the first effort to categorize online platforms and develop an innovation process-based framework of platforms for entrepreneurs.
