The relationship of the basophils in the peripheral blood of patients with bronchial asthma to their allergic reactions has been studied. The basophils were stained and counted using our improved method of Kovács. The results showed that the basophils increased in the pre‐attack stage and a count of 65/mm3 or more made it possible to predict a forthcoming attack. Among the patients on prolonged treatment, the basophils which were over this level during repeated asthmatic attacks decreased during the attack‐free stage, reflecting the effects of therapy. It was also found that the basophils were increased in those patients with allergic asthma whose sera gave positive Prausnitz‐Küstner reactions. This study suggests a significant relationship of peripheral blood basophils with the allergic reaction.

We evaluated the effects of the intra-ar ter ia l infusion of ant i tumor agents to the cases of 50 advanced cancer pa t ien ts of a l imentary organs as follows: cancer of stomach, 36, cancer of l iver and bi l iary duct, 6, cancer of pancreas, 7, and cancer of colon, 1. For each cases, polyethylene tube was inser ted under laparotomy to the regional a r te ry and ant i tumor agent was adminis tered through the tube varying the period for a couple of days to several months. In the cases of stomach, ca the te r was inserted from the left or r ight gastr ic a r te ry to the tumor. In the case of l iver and pancreas, ca theter was inser ted from the r ight gastroepiploic a r te ry and the top of it was fixed in the proper hepatic and pancreaticoduodenal artery, respectively. The successful ra te of th is procedure was in 66%. The clinical effects were noted as the objective and subjective improvements in 36% and 48%, respectively, when the drug was infused correctly.
