Polarization curves of precipitates in zirconium alloys

Takuya Murai; Takeshi Isobe; Yoshiharu Mae

Polarization curves of ZrFe2, ZrCr2, and Zr(Fe0.66,Cr0.33)2 have been measured in the solution containing 2.2 ppm Li and 500 ppm B at 303 K. Cathodic polarization resistance of ZrFe2 was lower than that of ZrCr2. That of Zr(Fe0.66,Cr0.33)2 was qualitatively similar to ZrFe2. Fe-containing intermetallics would serve as the cathodic sites in the alloy more effectively than ZrCr2. Anodic polarization characteristics indicate that Zr(Fe0.66,Cr0.33)2 and ZrCr2 have better corrosion resistance than ZrFe2. It would be attributed to Cr content.
