Quantitative characterization of discrete particles and multi-phased microstructures is an indispensable of analyses in powders and powder processing for the quality assessment of the products and the control of the processes. Here are condensed powder characteristics and random packing as the successive processing. Powders can be quantitatively characterized by diagramming simultaneously and summarizing statistically both the sizes and shapes of the particles. Since the computer simulation for random packing of spheres with given size distributions reveals the structures of the packed beds and the densities, the quantitative relation between the powder characteristics and the packing density has been discussed with a stereometric model which has been proposed for the general powder particle in consideration of the shape.
