Supplementary transient suppression in a Burst-mode EDFA using optical feedback

We extend the performance investigation of a burst-mode EDFA to µs-ms timescales applicable full rang of dynamic optical networks and, in combination with optical gain-clamping, demonstrate superior performance compared to a conventional EDFA.

Spectral efficiency in crosstalk-impaired multi-core fiber links

We review the latest advances on ultra-high throughput transmission using crosstalk-limited single-mode multicore fibers and compare these with the theoretical spectral efficiency of such systems. We relate the crosstalkimposed spectral efficiency limits with fiber parameters, such as core diameter, core pitch, and trench design. Furthermore, we investigate the potential of techniques such as direction interleaving and high-order MIMO to improve the throughput or reach of these systems when using various modulation formats.

We describe experiments combining high core-count, homogeneous single-mode multi-core fibers with a wideband comb for high-capacity transmission without high-order MIMO reception and demonstrate wideband transmission with coded modulation up to 12,300 km.

We demonstrate the emergent integration and control of surviving multi-vendor optical systems after huge-disasters. Interconnecting surviving multi-vendor networks is not only feasible but also the most cost-efficient approach to the quick disaster recovery.

Error-free 160 (16λ × 10) Gbit/s optical packet switching and 100-km-transmission with IP-packet-loss-rate ≪10<sup>-8</sup> and bit-error-rate ≪10<sup>-9</sup> is demonstrated by transient-response-suppressed EDFAs, multiple label-processor of ultra-fast processor (≪100 ps), burst-mode packet transmitter/receiver, and IP/optical-packet converters.
