Features of Microstructure in Sr2RuO4

Features of microstructures in Sr2RuO4 have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy in a temperature range between 12K and room temperature. In electron diffraction patterns taken from some regions at room temperature, there are both diffuse streaks and superlattice spots as well as fundamental spots due to the K2NiF4-type structure. Layered defects, which is related to the streaks, were also observed in bright field images. In addition, no change was found to occur in diffraction patterns, when a specimen was cooled from room temperature to 12K. This clearly suggests that an anomaly in electrical resistivity along the c axis around 130K is not due to a change in a crystal structure.
