We have fabricated high-density arrays of individually isolated semispherical nanocapacitors consisting of porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) layers as dielectric materials and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as electrodes. It is shown that the nanocapacitors made with the CNT electrodes exhibit much better C-V behaviors than those without the CNT electrodes. The improved electrical behavior is explained in terms of the use of the CNT electrodes deposited within the porous AAO layers. The capacitance calculated using semispherical capacitor formula is in agreement with the experimental value.

Effects of Pt nanoparticle incorporation into a MoO 3 thin film, which was prepared via cosputtering of a Pt and MoO 3 target, were investigated for a cathode electrode of the rechargeable Li batteries. The incorporation of the Pt with size of ca. 1.5 nm formed a heterogeneous film morphology with nanophases of Pt and MoO 3 domains, leading to a better cyclic performance than the electrode of MoO 3 without Pt. These enhancements with Pt in the MoO 3 electrode could be ascribed to a combined effect of substantial decrease in the sheet resistance and amelioration of the mechanical stability of the film itself.

A network structure of gold nanowires was prepared from a template synthesis method, in which gold metal nanowires were first deposited into a polycarbonate track-etched membrane with pore diameter of 100 or 220 nm via auto-catalytic deposition (i.e., electroless deposition), followed by thermal treatment to remove the polycarbonate template membrane.
