Efficient handoff decision algorithm using differential RSSI in MPLS-based mobile IP network

YoungHwan Kwon; Seong Gon Choi; Jun Kyun Choi

This paper proposes an efficient handoff decision algorithm using differential received signal strength indicator (RSSI) in MPLS-based mobile IP network. MPLS-based mobile IP integrates mobile IP and MPLS. The differential RSSI value is efficient to decide handoff because this value could represent the movement direction of mobile node (MN). In our algorithm, a base station tracks the differential RSSI value of mobile node in overlapped region and releases the reserved bandwidth of MN with the differential RSSI value. As shown by numerical analysis, our algorithm using differential RSSI could increase performance by decreasing handoff blocking probability.

Movement Detection Mechanism Using Differential RSSI in Mobile MPLS Network

YoungHwan Kwon; Seong Gon Choi; Jun Kyun Choi

This paper proposes a new movement detection mechanism using a differential received signal strength indicator (DRSSI) in a mobile multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network. MPLS can support a mobile service and is the fundamental technology in next generation networks (NGN). A base station (BS) can detect the movement of mobile nodes (MN) by measuring its DRSSI. In our algorithm, a BS can release the bandwidth of MN in handoff when the MN goes to another cell. According to the numerical analysis, our movement detection algorithm using DRSSI can increase the performance of mobile MPLS network by reducing handoff blocking probability

An Multicast LLID Allocation Mechanism using MPCP for Multimedia Service in E-PON

YoungHwan Kwon; Hyun Jong Lee; Jun Kyun Choi

The multimedia service has a limitation on access network due to heavy traffic and many receivers. This paper suggests a new multicast mechanism using MPCP in E-PON to reduce duplicated data.

Performance of Optical Burst Switching in Time Division Multiplexed Wavelength-Routing Networks.

Tai-Won Um; YoungHwan Kwon; Jun Kyun Choi

In this paper, we propose an optical burst switching architecture in time division multiplexed wavelength-routing networks, in which an edge OBS node requests time slots necessary to optical bursts to the time division multiplexed wavelength-routing network. Our scheme is attempt to improve the burst contention resolution and optical channel utilization.

Efficient wireless resource management scheme using differential received signal strength indicator in soft handoff

YoungHwan Kwon; Seong Gon Choi; Jun Kyun Choi; Jeong Yun Kim; Jin Ho Hahm

This paper proposes an efficient wireless resource management scheme using a Differential Received Signal Strength Indicator (DRSSI) in soft handoff DRSSI is the differential value of RSSIs, and can be used to monitor the movement of a Mobile Node (MN) For example, the DRSSI has a bigger value or changes its sign (+, -) if the MN changes its movement speed or direction A base station can determine the priority of a MN and can acknowledge the movement direction of a MN with these features By using the priority and movement direction of a MN, we can reduce the handoff blocking probability by reducing the unnecessary usage of wireless resource, which can be analyzed by numerical analysis.
