Youngmee Shin; Chorong Yu; Seung-Hwa Chung; Sangki Kim

Convergence and user-centricity are the leading trends in telecom network. The service creation scheme is changing to realize these trends. This paper describes the end-user driven service creation method for converged service over telecom and Internet domain. The proposed SCE fulfills the general SCE requirements and also comes up with the network trend to user-centricity and the network evolution towards convergence. The advantage of our approach comes from web based service creation and execution environment to satisfy end-users requirements and encourage users participation. Using our SCE, end- users can create their own service applications and use them anytime and anywhere through their personal devices.

Multimedia service interworking over heterogeneous networking environments

Sehyeong Cho; Youngmee Shin

This article discusses technical issues related to delivery of multimedia services, such as video-on-demand, over heterogeneous networking environments. In particular, it describes the design and implementation of an experimental system for multimedia service interworking between a DAVIC (Digital Audio Visual Council) domain and an Internet domain. The system, called MIDDLEMEN (middlemen for multimedia environment), consists of the broker and the interworking unit, which work together to provide multimedia services across different types of networks in a seamless manner. The broker acts as a guide to multimedia services, and complements servers or clients that are not equipped with full functionality. The broker also controls the resources in MIDDLEMEN. The interworking unit performs various translation functions under the control of the broker, including stream transport protocol conversion, traffic monitoring and bit-rate control, service gateway conversion, and stream control conversion. Current implementation supports the delivery of a DAVIC-compliant VOD service from an ATM network to an IP network.

Real time delivery and control mechanism of multimedia service between ATM network and Internet

Choongjae Im; Youngmee Shin; Sungwon Sohn; Sehyeong Cho

This paper proposes the middleMEN (middlemen for Multimedia Environment) approach for a real time delivery and control mechanism of multimedia services between the ATM network and the Internet. MiddleMEN consists of the interworking unit and the service broker to provide a seamless multimedia service between the ATM network and the Internet. For a real time delivery of multimedia services between the ATM network and the Internet, the interworking unit of the middleMEN does the following functions: protocol conversion, data format conversion, traffic monitoring and bit-rate control. The interworking unit of the middleMEN converts the protocols of the ATM network to the Internet protocols for real time delivery. Also, it provides data format conversion, traffic monitoring and bit-rate control to overcome the bandwidth difference between the ATM network and the Internet.

DER Energy Management System for Optimal Management of Grid-Connected Microgrids

Jongwoo Choi; Youngmee Shin; Il-Woo Lee

This paper presents the structure of an energy management system for distributed energy resources of a grid-connected microgrid. The energy management system of a grid-connected microgrid collects information of the microgrid such as the status of distributed energy resources and the time varying pricing plan through various protocols. The energy management system performs forecasting and optimization based on the collected information. It derives the operation schedule of distributed energy resources to reduce the microgrid electricity bill. In order to achieve optimal operation, the energy management system should include an optimal scheduling algorithm and a protocol that transfers the derived schedule to distributed energy resources. The energy management system operates as a rolling horizon controller in order to reduce the effect of a prediction error. Derived control schedules are transmitted to the distributed energy resources in real time through the international standard communication protocol. 논문 / 전력망 연계형 마이크로그리드 최적운영을 위한 분산에너지자원 에너지관리시스템

Service Components for Unified Communication and Collaboration of an SOA-Based Converged Service Platform

Ki-Sook Chung; Youngmee Shin

Since there are lots of communication means and devices such as e-mail, short messaging, messengers, wired or wireless telephone and even social network services, we need some unified communication environment for the smarter work place. We introduce a converged service platform with open service components for the unified communication and collaboration in this paper. Using the converged service platform, the third party service providers can create applications easily by composing the open service components and execute their applications since the CSP covers the entire lifecycle of services. The CSP provides UCC (Unified Communication and Collaboration) components in the form of web services. The UCC components of the CSP cover basic communication functionalities as well as social collaboration functionalities and can be mashed up into various applications for the smart collaboration in a company.

SCE Library Implementation for Creating Networks Converged Mashup Service

Seung-Hwa Chung; Youngmee Shin

Open APIs make the developer, who does not have the specific knowledge of the network, create a service easier and faster. However, the developer still needs some knowledge of each APIs and programming skill in order to use this kind of APIs. For this, the SCE (Service Creation Environment) tool in which developers can easily use APIs was developed. Through the SCE, many number of general IT developers can create services simply with the minimum knowledge of the network and the understanding about the offered APIs. In this paper, we describe the implementation steps and the verification of the SCE library that can produce the mashup service composed by the parlay X API, the Web 2.0 API, and the utility API.
