Effect of a lanthanide ion on the micellation and self-organization of lyotropic liquid crystal systems

N. M. Selivanova; V. V. Osipova; Yu. G. Galyametdinov

Lanthanide-containing lyotropic liquidcrystalline systems were synthesized and their phase behavior, as well as the micellar behavior of aqueous solutions of decaethylene glycol monodecyl ether in the absence and presence of a lanthanide ion, were studied. Tensimetry and conductometry were used to determine the critical micellation concentration, and the values obtained by these methods were found to be in close agreement with each other. Polarization microscopy observations showed that, in concentrated aqueous solutions, ordered lyotropic mesophases arise. The parameters of the phase transitions in the systems under study were determined. The mesophase obtained was demonstrated to have a 2D hexagonal supramolecular structure.

Micellar and liquid-crystalline properties of bicyclic fragment-containing cationic surfactant

N. K. Gaisin; Oleg I. Gnezdilov; T. N. Pashirova; E. P. Zhil’tsova; S. S. Lukashenko; L. Ya. Zakharova; V. V. Osipova; V. I. Dzhabarov; Yu. G. Galyametdinov

NMR spectroscopy is employed to study the aggregation of a cationic surfactant, 4-aza-1-cetyl-1-azoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bromide, in aqueous solutions. Self-diffusion coefficients are determined for micelles and monomers and the hydrodynamic radius and aggregation number are calculated for micelles. Polarization microscopy data demonstrate that the examined compound is an amphotropic substance. It is found that the lyotropic liquid-crystalline system is characterized by a wider temperature range of mesophase existence as compared to the thermotropic system.

Liquid-crystalline CuII and PdII complexes with nonmesogenic ferrocene-containing β-aminovinyl ketone

O. N. Kadkin; Yu. G. Galyametdinov; A. I. Rakhmatullin

New liquid-crystalline heteropolynuclear complexes L2M (M=Cu2+ (2a), Pd2+ (2b)) were synthesized by the reactions of C5H5FeC5H4−C6H4NH−C2H2−(CO)−C6H4OC12H25 (1, LH) with copper(ii) and palladium(ii) acetates. Compound2b was found to possess monotropic nematic and smectic phases;2a exhibits the monotropic nematic phase and a phenomenon of “double melting”. The compositions and structures of compounds1 and2a,b were established by elemental analysis,1H and13C NMR, ESR, and IR spectroscopy.

Synthesis and magnetic properties of liquid crystalline lanthanide complexes with alkylsulfate counterions

L. V. Malykhina; Andrey V. Prosvirin; Wolfgang Haase; Yu. G. Galyametdinov

The reaction of Schiffs base L with lanthanide alkylsulfates affords liquid crystalline complexes with the general formula L3Ln(CnH2n+1OSO3)3. The liquid crystalline structure and magnetic properties are studied by polarization thermal microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and measurement of magnetic susceptibility. The temperatures of the existence of the mesophase and magnetic anisotropy of the complexes with the same lanthanide depend on the chain length of the alkyl fragment in the sulfate anion.

Preparation of II–VI Semiconductors Nanoparticles and Investigation of Their Photophysical Properties

I. Nassar; V. V. Osipova; G. M. Safiullin; V. S. Lobkov; Yu. G. Galyametdinov

ABSTRACT Results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), absorption spectra, and photoluminescence emission spectra are presented for CdS nanoparticles prepared by different techniques. These techniques included preparation of CdS nanoparticles in a liquid crystal state with H2S as well as by mixing two lamellar phases, sol-gel technique, using thiophenol as capping agent, and prepared it in reverse micelles. XRD, which shows the crystalline nature of the materials as well as determines their size with Scherrers equation has been studied. Absorption spectra, not only for CdS nanoparticles but for CdS dispersed in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), were studied and show a blue shift as a result of nanoparticles. Also, the photoluminescence emission spectra for as-prepared nanocomposite CdS that have different peaks depending on different parameters are discussed as will as nonlinear properties through two-photon absorption and second-harmonic generation for the prepared samples.

Lanthanide tris(β-diketonates) as ionophores for chloride ion-selective electrodes

V. I. Dzhabarov; A. A. Knyazev; Yu. G. Galyametdinov

Lanthanide tris(β-diketonates) were used as ionophores for plasticized polymer membranes of ion-selective electrodes. Electrochemical properties of the membranes were characterized, and the possibility of their use as components of chloride ion-selective electrodes was studied.
