Abstract The combined use of lead nitrate, sodium dicyanamide (Nadca) and 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2-bipyridine has led to the preparation of two one-dimensional coordination polymers Pb(dca)(NO3)(1,10-phen) (1) and Pb(dca)2(2,2′-bipy)(H2O) (2). X-ray crystallography shows that both 1 and 2 have one-dimensional chains with dca in a novel 1,1,5-μ3-coordination mode, which results in one-dimensional double-stranded chains. This coordination mode has not been observed in the reported complexes of dca, further indicating the versatility of dca in bonding to metal ions.

Crystal and molecular structure of a novel complex [Mn(MOBPT)(H 2 O) 2 (NCS) 2 ] (MOBPT=4-( p -methoxyphenyl)-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole)

Dun-Ru Zhu; Yan Xu; Yuhua Mei; Yu-Jun Shi; Chao Tu; Xiao-Zeng You

The molecular structure of a novel manganese(II) complex with 4-(p-methoxyphenyl)-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole (MOBPT) has been determined by X-ray analysis, FT-IR and by ESI-MS spectroscopy. The manganese atom is in a distorted octahedral environment. Bidentate chelating ligand (MOBPT) and two cis-oriented thiocyanate anions coordinate to the metal center equatorially and two water molecules coordinate axially. MOBPT entity coordinates via one triazole nitrogen and one pyridine nitrogen atom. The molecules are stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonds in the crystal lattice. Magnetic measurements show that the complex is high-spin species in the 75‐300 K range. q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract The reaction of the elongated Schiff base 1,4-bis(4-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene and PbI2 in DMF gave rise to two- and one-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid compounds [PbI2(C12H10N4)]2n·0.5n(C12H10N4) (1) and [PbI2(C12H10N4)]n (2), respectively, at different M/L ratios 2:1 and 1:1,and their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Compound 1 exhibits 2D-layered structure formed from PbI2 chains bridged by the Schiff base with the free ligand regularly lying between two layers, while compound 2 possesses a 1D-zig-zag chain where lead atom is in the rarely observed four-coordinate holodirected configuration. 2 is the first example of PbI2-based polymer with terminal coordinated iodine atoms.

Abstract The mixed ligand mononuclear copper(I) complex of formula [CuI(PPh 3 )(DPPZ)]·DMF (DPPZ=dipyrido[3,2,-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine) has been synthesized and has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction method, FT-IR spectrum, the electrospray ionization mass spectrum and the thermogravimetric analysis. The pairwise π–π stacking between DPPZ ligands exists through the crystal lattice.

Abstract A novel 2-D organic–inorganic hybrid compound [(PbBr2)2(μ-Pyz)]n 1, has been prepared, and its X-ray structure shows that the supramolecular structure consists of organic–inorganic hybrid layers, each of which is constructed from two [PbBr2]n sheets and one pyrazine, via Pb–N bonding along the direction of the b-axis, and the divalent lead is penta-coordinated to form a hemidirected complex.

Formation and Structure of the Novel Heptanuclear Lead(II) Oxo Cluster [Pb7(μ3‐O)(μ4‐O)(μ3‐OMe)4(μ2‐I)4]I2 with an Unprecedented Cage Structure

Yu-Jun Shi; Yan Xu; Xue-Tai Chen; Zi-Ling Xue; Xiao-Zeng You

A novel lead(II) cluster [Pb7(μ3-O)(μ4-O)(μ3-OMe)4(μ2-I)4]I2 (1) has been isolated from the reaction mixture of PbI2 and pyrazine in DMF/MeOH solvent with a reasonable yield (46%). The X-ray crystallography shows that 1 exhibits a novel unprecedented cage structure with centered μ3-O and μ4-O atoms and four different coordination environments of lead atoms. It is the first structurally characterized example of a lead compound containing bridging oxo, methoxide and iodide ligands. Compound 1 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P421m, a = b = 11.7768(13), c = 9.8606(16) A, Z = 2, V = 1367.6(3) A3. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2002)

Yu-Jun Shi; Yi-Zhi Li; Jian-Hao Zhou; Xue-Tai Chen; Bin Huang; Xiao-Zeng You

Two lead complexes [Pb(2,2′-bipy)2(H2O)2(tcm)]2·(tcm)2·2H2O, 1, and [Pb(phen)2(tcm)2], 2, have been prepared by reacting Pb(NO3)2, potassium tricyanomethanide (Ktcm) and 2,2-bipyridine or 10-phenanthroline, respectively. X-ray crystallography studies show that 1 is a dimer formed by two eight-coordinate [Pb(bipy)2(H2O)2] units bridged by tricyanomethanide while 2 is a mononuclear six-coordinate compound with the lead atom surrounded by two phen ligands and two tricyanomethanide ions.
