Structures, magnetic parameters, and ESR spectra of dimeric copper(II) methoxonitrophenolates containing coordinated pyridine

Crystal and molecular structures have been determined for two copper(II) methoxonitrophenolates (Cu(OCH/sub 3/)(Py)(L))/sub 2/, where HL is 2,4-dinitrophenol or 2,6-dinitrophenol. In both cases, the complexes are molecular dimers, in which the Cu/sup 2 +/ and two methoxo groups form a four-atom bridge fragment Cu/sub 2/O/sub 2/. The actual geometry has been used to estimate the contributions to the exchange-interaction parameter JS/sub 1/S/sub 2/ from all the indirect exchange mechanisms. The theoretical values agree satisfactorily with the measurements on the magnetic susceptibility and ESR spectra.
