STRUCTURAL EFFECTS OF ORGANIC LIGANDS IN LANTHANIDE EXTRACTION

A series of correlation analyses based on the quantitative examination of the contribution of various structural factors to their extraction behaviour for rare earths of typical extractants by spectroscopic methods, molecular orbital calculation and equilibrium measurments were presented. Linear free energy relationship was established between the extraction constants and polar or steric parameters of ligands. Various polar and steric constants of alkyl or alkoxyl group were thus evaluated for lanthanide extraction. The lipophilic nature of ligands should be taken into consideration.
