A study on the synergy performance of ammonium polyphosphate flame-retarded particleboard with modified 5A zeolite

Modified 5A zeolite with isonicotinic acid by impregnation method. The synergistic effects of the modified 5A zeolite, ammonium polyphosphate (APP) on particleboards were studied by using the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), cone calorimeter test (CCT). The experimental results demonstrate that the APP and modified 5A zeolite has a good synergy, their flame retardant was superior to the use of APP separately. The APP and modified 5A zeolite obviously made the peak heat release rate (pHRR) and the total heat release (THR) of particleboards decreased. At the same time, the smoke release rate (SPR) of the materials reduced, the total smoke emission also reduced by more than 1/2. Modified 5A zeolite and APP has good flame retardant synergistic effect, be helpful to form stable and tight carbon layer early. The TGA showed that addition of modified 5A zeolite can enhance the thermal stability of sample.
