We report two cases of subcutaneous fat necrosis in newborns aged 38 and 40 days During the active stage of skin lesions high triglyceride levels were recorded in both of these cases These high levels began to decrease concurrently with fading of the lesions During the follow up triglyceride levels were found normal In the light of these findings it might be suggested that the level of triglyceride is a good follow up criteria of the activation of skin lesions in patients with subcutaneous fat necrosis Key words: Subcutaneous Fat Necrosis Hypertriglyceridemia Newborn

Sarcoidosis is a chronic disease characterized by a chronic course multisystemic involvement presence of non caseificating granulomas in various organs Sarcoidosis with unknown etiology is rarely seen in childhood Although Sarcoidosis may manifest with various clinical manifestations the classical triad in early childhood period is composed of arthritis uveitis and skin lesions In this article sarcoidosis was evaluated because of a case a 14 5 year old boy suffering from blurred vision and red eyes for a long time and was diagnosed as uveitis and finally sarcoidosis He was diagnosed with recurrent erythema nodosum like skin lesions accompanying bilateral posterior uveitis increase in acute phase proteins and angiotensin converting enzyme levels presence of bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy image on chest X ray film and the finding of non caseificating granulomas in liver biopsy Symptoms of the patient regressed with oral prednisolone treatment In conclusion we suggest that sarcoidosis should be remembered in the differential diagnosis of uveitis in childhood Key words: Sarcoidosis Uveitis

Bu calismada intraartikuler steroidin IAS klasik tedaviye yanitsiz juvenil romatoid artrit JRA deki etkinligi arastirilmistir Calismaya besi erken baslangicli JRA dokuzu gec baslangicli JRA ikisi poliartikuler JRA ve ikisi sistemik JRA olmak uzere toplam 18 JRA li hasta alindi Arastirmada IAS preparati olarak metil prednisolon asetat kullanildi IAS uygulanan hastalar 14 05 ay boyunca izlendi Son vizitdeki durum kriter alinarak yapilan degerlendirmede IAS ie 13 72 2 hastada tam yanit 5 27 7 hastada ise kismi yanit saptandi X2=3 55 p=0 056 JRA li hastalarda IAS e karsi bir komplikasyon gozlenmedi Sonuc olarak IAS tedaviye yanitsiz kronik artrit tedavisinde etkin uygulamasi kolay ve komplikasyon olusturma riski dusuk olan bir tedavi yontemidir Anahtar kelimeler: Juvenil Romatoid Artrit Intraartikuler Steroid

Demir Eksikliği Olan Çocuklarda Nötrofil İşlevleri

We aim to evaluate the influence of iron deficiency and iron supplementation on neutrophil PMN functions which are important factor in nonspecific immun response Seventeen children with iron deficiency 11 girls 6 boys ged 2 56±1 55 years and a control of 11 healthy children 4 girls 7 boys aged 2 94±1 92 years were studied In both populations serum opsonic activity spontaneous and endotoxinstimulated NBT nitroblue tetrazolium reduction test pozitive PMN leucocytes were evaluated They are all reevaluated after two months of oral iron supplementation in the iron deficiency group We did not find any significant difference between the group with iron deficiency and the control group when compared for serum opsonic activity and NBT ratios These results show that children with iron deficiency do not have a susceptibility to infection in regaed of these PMN functions Key words: Iron Deficiency Nonspecific Immunity Nbt Granulocytes Pmn Serum Opsonic Activity
