Ding Ma; Yue Cai; Chun Zhou; Weijian Zong; Lingling Chen; Zhigang Zhang

We report 37.4 fs pulse generation from a ring-cavity Er:fiber laser at a repetition rate of 225 MHz. The spectral bandwidth of the pulse is 135 nm. The single-pulse energy is 0.31 nJ.

Novel Ring Cavity for Ytterbium-Doped Mode-Locked Fiber Laser Incorporated With Both SESAM and Grating Pair

Chun Zhou; Weijian Yang; Guangxiao Zhang; Yue Cai; Jing Li; Peng Li; Zhigang Zhang

A novel ring cavity incorporated with both semiconductor saturable absorber mirror and grating pair is proposed and demonstrated in a Yb-doped fiber laser. The laser proves self-starting and delivers 84-fs pulses at 1038 nm with a spectral bandwidth of 22 nm. The pulse energy is 0.55 nJ.

Yue Cai; Chun Zhou; Meng Zhang; Ling Ren; Lingling Chen; W. P. Kong; D. Q. Pang; Zhuoli Zhang

We proposed and fabricated a metal/dielectric mirror based high modulation depth semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM), for ease of the growth restrictions. Using such a SESAM, we obtained self-starting mode-locking in a ring cavity fiber laser, which produced 102 fs pulses at a repetition rate of 36.2 MHz.

Erbium-Doped Fiber Lasers Operated in a Strong Normal Dispersion Regime at Low Repetition Rate

Yue Cai; Chun Zhou; Meng Zhang; Lingling Chen; Yunfeng Ma; Zhongwei Fan; Gang Niu; Jin Yu; Yang Liu; Xue Zhang; Zhigang Zhang

We report on a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser with a repetition rate as low as 1.2 MHz in a strong normal dispersion regime. The laser was mode locked via spectral filtering. It generated a pulse with large and linear chirp that can be dechirped to 430 fs outside the cavity.

Simplified cavity for erbium-doped fiber laser mode locked with spectral filtering

Yue Cai; Chun Zhou; Lingling Chen; Meng Zhang; Ling Ren; Zhigang Zhang

We report a simplified mode-locked Er fiber laser in normal dispersion with birefringence filters compared with the one with nonlinear polarization evolution mechanism.

Ultra-low repetition rate SESAM-mode-locked linear-cavity erbium-doped fiber laser

Lingling Chen; Meng Zhang; Chun Zhou; Yue Cai; Ling Ren; Zhigang Zhang

We investigated linear-cavity with ultra-low repetition rate Erbium-doped fiber laser mode-locked by a high modulation depth SESAM. Output pulses were highly-chirped, at energy up to 14 nJ and minimum repetition rate was 25 kHz.

Ultra-low repetition rate all-normal-dispersion linear-cavity mode-locked fiber lasers

Meng Zhang; Lingling Chen; Chun Zhou; Yue Cai; Zhigang Zhang

We demonstrate the long linear-cavity with ultra-low repetition rate Ytterbium-doped fiber laser mode-locked by a SESAM. Output pulses were highly-chirped, with energies high to 75.2 nJ and minimum repetition rate was 191 kHz.

Femtosecond laser pulse generation in an erbium-doped ring cavity fiber laser with a single-wall carbon-nanotube saturable absorber

Yue Cai; Chun Zhou; Ling Ren; Peng Li; Kaili Jiang; Zhigang Zhang

We demonstrate a new saturable absorber mirror coated with thin-film single-wall carbon nanotubes. Using such a device, we build a T-type ring cavity fiber laser and obtained pulses of 586 fs.

A simple and accurate measurement of fiber time delay in free-running linear-cavity laser configuration

Lingling Chen; Meng Zhang; Yue Cai; Chun Zhou; Zhigang Zhang

A simple, convenient and accurate technique for measurement of time delay in fiber by using a free-running linear-cavity laser is demonstrated. The uncertainty of time delay was in the order of 10−7 ~ 10−6.
