Compared to other world economic powers, the Chinese government has been slow in adopting the Internet technology in carrying out its administrative and public service functions. As China’s Information technology infrastructure improves and its Internet user population continues to grow, however, the government has become increasingly convinced by the significance and benefits of conducting its business online. ABSTRACT Chinas acceptance into the World Trade Organization has provided the opportunity for Western organizations to enter the Chinese market. One of the most promising areas that has attracted a great deal of attention is the Chinese E-commerce market. Public use of the Internet in China has dramatically increased in the last few years. Businesses considering this expanding market must answer the following questions: Is the Chinese business community ready for E-commerce? How widely is Internet technology being used in Chinese corporations? What are the barriers to adopting an E-commerce strategy? This study explores these topics through a survey conducted among Chinese managers and administrators enrolled in Executive MBA programs at two universities in two Chinese provinces.
