The PT-symmetric and PT-antisymmetric Akhmediev breather (AB) and Kuznetsov-Ma (KM) soliton train solutions of a (2+1)-dimensional variable-coefficient coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation in PT-symmetric coupled waveguides with gain and loss are derived via the Darboux transformation method. From these analytical solutions, we investigate the controllable behaviors of AB and KM soliton trains in a diffraction decreasing system with exponential profile. By adjusting the relation between the maximum Zm of effective propagation distance and the peak locations Zi of AB and KM soliton trains, we can control the restraint, maintenance and postpone excitations of AB and KM soliton trains.

By means of the similarity transformation, we obtain exact self-similar solutions (similaritons) of the generalized cubic-quintic (CQ) nonlinear Schrodinger equation with spatially inhomogeneous group velocity dispersion, CQ nonlinearity and amplification or attenuation. Exact balance conditions between the dispersion, nonlinearity and the gain/loss have been obtained. As an example, we investigate their propagation dynamics in the dispersion decreasing fiber (DDF). Considering the fluctuation of the fiber parameter in real application, the exact balance conditions do not satisfy, and so we perform direct numerical analysis with initial 10% white noise for the bright similariton in both the DDF and the periodic distributed amplification system. Numerical calculations indicate stable propagation of the bright similariton over tens of dispersion lengths. These ultrashort self-similar optical waves are potentially useful for all-optical data-processing schemes and the design of beam compressors and amplifiers.

We derive analytical bright and dark similaritons of the generalized coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations with distributed coefficients. An exact balance condition between the dispersion, nonlinearity and the gain/loss has been obtained. Under this condition, we discuss the nonlinear similariton tunneling effect.

The nonlinear Schrodinger equation with inhomogeneous diffraction and nonlinearity in the presence of PT-symmetric potentials is investigated, and an analytical bright 2D spatial soliton is obtained. The positive and negative signs in the parameters of the PT-symmetric potentials lead to four permutation and combination cases. The dynamical evolutions of the spatial soliton in the periodic modulated system and the diffraction decreasing waveguide are discussed. Dynamical characteristics of the form factors for the spatial soliton including the amplitude, width and phase are studied. Moreover, two kinds of nonlinear PT phase change are presented. These results may provide alternative methods in potential applications of synthetic PT-symmetric systems.

In this paper, a modified nonlinear Schrodinger equation governing the solitary wave motion of blood in an aortic vessel is obtained. One- and two-soliton solutions are given by using the Darboux transformation. The analytic results show that the nonlinear coefficient of elasticity and Youngs modulus have a strong influence on the amplitude of a soliton. Furthermore, different interactions of two solitons are investigated.

In this paper, a damped nonlinear Schr?dinger equation governing dust acoustic solitary waves is obtained in collisional dusty plasmas being comprised of dust grains with dust charge variation, Boltzmann distributed electrons and nonthermally distributed ions. The modulation instability (MI) of dust-acoustic waves is studied and the expression of the MI growth rate is given. The numerical results show that the nonthermal ions, collision effect and ion-to-electron temperature ratio have a strong influence on the existential region of different types of similaritons and the amplitude of similaritons. Furthermore, the different interactions of two similaritons are investigated.

A modified mapping method and new ansätz form are used to derive three families of variable separation solutions with two arbitrary functions of the (2+1)-dimensional Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov equation in water waves. By selecting appropriate functions in the variable separation solution, we discuss interaction behaviours among dromion-pair and dromion-like peakon-pair and dromionlike semifoldon-pair. The analysis results exhibit that the interaction behaviours between dromionpair and dromion-like peakon-pair, dromion-pair and semifoldon-pair, dromion-like peakon-pair and semifoldon-pair are all incomplete elastic, and there exists a phase shift. The interaction behaviour between two dromion-like semifoldon-pairs is completely elastic, and no phase shift appears after interaction. Moreover, during the interactions between dromion-pair and semifoldon-pair, dromionlike peakon-pair and semifoldon-pair, and between two dromion-like semifoldon-pairs, there all exist a multi-valued semifoldon-pair.

Informationization of experimental teaching is called for to address problems emerging from teaching of physics experiments in agriculture and forestry colleges in China. To achieve this goal, functional orientations and modes of approach to informationization have been schemed and put into practice. Preliminary practices indicate that to informationize experimental teaching has boosted teaching effects, which in turn improve teaching quality, realizing a win-win outcome of teaching and learning.
