Vortex shedding flow calculation using a time-dependent k-epsilon turbulence model

In the combustor using bluff body type flame holders, mixing and combusting properties are dominated by the large-scale vortex shedded from the flame holder. However, there has been no simulation method which can correctly estimate the mixing and combusting properties in an oscillating flow field and their applicability to the combusting flow in an actual combustor. A computer simulation method which can estimate vortex shedding and mixing property has been required for the design and development of RAM engine combustors. The purpose of this study is to establish a simulation method which estimates the vortex shedding and mixing property behind the V-gutter. In this paper, the time step solution using a timedependent k--E turbulence model is examined for prediction of the vortex shedding behind the Vgutter. and the results obtained are compared with the experimental data. This simulation method is superior to a steady simulation of the time-averaged flow property in an oscillating flow. The present simulation method can precisely and effectively sstimate high-frequency vortex shedding and Jscillating flow property. Furthermore, the bimodal probability density function can be considered by using the present simulation method. The present simulation code can estimate the mixing of fuel and air due to the large-scale vortex shedded from the Vgutter’and small-scale turbulence. 4
