Amination catalysts for the production of N,N-dimethyldodecylamine from dodecyl alcohol and dimethylamine

Abstract Tertiary amines were synthesized from the corresponding alcohols using amination catalysts, especially copper stearate and nickel stearate. A mixture of copper and nickel stearates shows high catalytic activity and selectivity for the amination reaction of aliphatic alcohols. The catalytic activity decreased as a result of sintering. In order to prevent sintering, the addition of alkaline earth metal stearates was examined. Barium stearate was the most effective stabilizer for the catalyst. The effect of addition of barium stearate is discussed.

Development of Catalysts for Direct Amination of Aliphatic Alcohols

Abstract There are many kinds of industrial processes for the production of aliphatic tertiary amines. Among them, catalytic amination of aliphatic alcohols is the simplest process and can produce aliphatic tertiary amines with high quality. In this process, amination catalysts are very important and have been examined over a long period of time by various researchers. In this paper, the abilities required for the catalysts and the amination mechanisms of aliphatic alcohols are presented, and furthermore the performance of the amination catalyst which we had researched and developped are mentioned.
