Increase of auxin-antagonistic action in 3-phosphoryloxycarbostyrils

Makoto Taniguchi; T. Kamikawa; Yaeko Fujiwara; Yukio Satomura

Abstract Introduction of phosphoryloxy group at C-3 in carbostyrils has been found to increase auxin-antagonistic action. 3-Phosphoryloxycarbostyrils were synthesised from 3-hydroxycarbostyril and 3-hydroxy-4-phenylcarbostyril (viridicatin). The phosphates at very low concentrations markedly stimulated the root growth of rice seedlings, and competitively inhibited the IAA-induced lamina inclination in rice explants.

Purification and substrate specificities of phospholipase A and B of Sclerotinia fungus.

Susumu Oi; Yukio Satomura

The phospholipase of Sclerotinia fungus was separated by the paperelectrophoresis method into three fractions, of which one component is phospholipase A and the others phospholipase B. These enzymes could be isolated also by the column chromatography using anion exchange resin Duolite A 2 and DEAE cellulose. The former and one of the latter enzymes were obtained in a crystalline form from its solution saturated with ammonium sulfate. The investigation of substrate specificities of these enzymes has shown that the two phospholipase B hydrolyze a commercial soybean lecithin, and one of them can also attack egg-yolk lecithin without addition of any activating lipides.

Studies on the Glucanase of Sclerotinia Libertiana :Part II. Influence of the Glucanase and Lipolytic Enzymes on Fermentation of Sugars by Yeast

Yukio Satomura; Susumu Oi; Masayuki Ono

Glucanase-treatment of yeast cells was shown to increase the glucose fermenting activity, and decrease the sucrose and maltose fermenting activity. Also, lipase–and phospholipase–treatment decreased the fermenting activity on these sugars. However, the effects on the disaccharide fermenting activity could be reversed under various growth conditions of the yeast cells. From these results, structural factors envolved in the transport of fermentable sugars into yeast cells are discussed.

Action of Lysozyme and Some Microbial Enzymes on Acid-Resistant Organisms: (Studies on Bacteriolytic Substances produced by Microorganisms, Part 5)

Yukio Satomura; Shigetaka Okada; Juichiro Fukumoto

INTRODUCTION The action of lysozyme has long been em ployed as a useful means in cytochemical studies of many species of bacteria1)2), but so far few reports have been published on the study of tubercle bacilli and lysozyme3). Lysis of bacterial cell by lysozyme is attributed to the dissolution of a polysaccharide which plays a part in the maintenance of the cell-wall structure4). Accordingly, it is, doubtful whether complete lysis can be expected if this lysozyme sensitive polysaccharide in the cell wall were combined with other cell wall constituents into such a complex in which the susceptible poly saccharide could be protected from the direct attack of lysozyme. Concerning this, the effects

Intracellular Lipase Formation by Washed Mycelium:Biochemical Studies on Sclerotinia Libertiana. Part 13

Yukio Satomura; Susumu Oi; Akira Sawada

Intracellular lipase of the fungus Sclerotina Libertiana Fcl. could be formed powerfully by washed mycelium during shaking in a plain buffer solution, just as well as in the case of shaking culture. Experiments showed revealed it to be favourable to set the mycelium in the experiment harvested at the end of its stationary phase of growth, and that the addition of various respiratory carbon sources had inhibiting effects, while several surface active agents and some enzyme preparations accelerating effects on the lipase formation. Also, the quality and the quantity of consumed cell-materials in the shaking experiment were investigated in relation to lipase formation.

Studies on the Red Yeast of Sporobolomyces Genus

Izue Yamasaki; Yukio Satomura; Takehiko Yamamoto
