Thermally stimulated currents of corona‐charged abietic acid glass

Two clearly separated peaks are found in TSC (thermally stimulated current) of corona‐charged abietic acid glass. A TSC theory is derived on the basis of the Debye equation and is applied to interpreting this TSC curve. A method of obtaining electrical properties by measuring TSC curves of the samples with various thicknesses is developed and is applied to abietic acid glass. Electrical properties of abietic acid glass are obtained as follows: the dielectric constant is 1.8×10−11 F/m; the electric orientational susceptibility χd is χde0=1.1×10−11 F/m; the dipole relaxation time is 2.6×10−32 exp(Eτ/kT) sec, Eτ=2.2 eV (45–60 °C); the conductivity is 2.8×1025 exp(−Eγ/kT) (Ω m)−1, Eγ=2.7 eV (75–90 °C). The measured susceptibility agrees approximately with the value estimated by the Langevin‐Debye equation.
