Magnetic phase transitions of Ce2Fe17 under high pressures and high magnetic fields

Abstract Magnetization measurements have been performed on single-phase Ce 2 Fe 17 with a rhombohedral structure under high pressures up to 1.2xa0GPa and in magnetic fields B up to 17xa0T to clarify the pressure effect on the magnetic phase transitions. At 0.8xa0GPa, we observed at least seven magnetic phases in the B – T plane. The results obtained indicate that the hybridization between the Fe 3d- and Ce 4f-electron states plays an important role for the magnetic properties of Ce 2 Fe 17 .

Observation of new magnetic phases in Ce2Fe17 under high pressure and high magnetic fields

Magnetization and electrical resistivity measurements have been performed for Ce 2 Fe 17 under high pressures of up to 1.2 GPa and high magnetic fields of up to 17 T. At ambient pressure, two antiferromagnetic phases appear at T N =215 K and T c =125 K with decreasing temperature. A metamagnetic transition from the antiferromagnetic to the forced ferromagnetic state is observed at 4.2 K. The transition field increases with increasing pressure, whereas the saturation magnetization, saturation field and T N decrease. New magnetic phases, which are different from the two antiferromagnetic and forced ferromagnetic phases, are observed under high pressure and high magnetic fields.
