A Comparison Of Different Methods Used To Generate Digital Elevation Models

Digital Terrain Models are often generated from existing topographic maps. Their object is to obtain information about the elevation, slope and aspect of any pixel of a raster CIS, from an information not originally intended to that. Different method used for generating DTM are tested and the results are discussed. Some improvements are proposed and tested. In most cases, the accuracies noted for topographic parameters are not good enough for some applications. For most application, a cautious analysis of the intrinsic errors and their propagation in GIS computations have to be carried out.
