Rate Acceleration of Nucleophilic Substitution of 2-Chloro-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine by Sulfinate Catalysis

Abstract The use of sulfinates greatly enhances the rate of substitution in the reaction of 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine with alkoxy or aryloxy nucleophiles. Pyrimidinyloxy derivatives as intermediates for potent herbicides have been prepared in good yields from the readily available 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine.

Selective alkoxycarbonylation of 2,3-dichloropyridines

Abstract 2,3-Dichloropyridines undergo a mono- or a dicarbonylation in the presence of carbon monoxide, an alcohol and a palladium catalyst, affording selectively either alkyl 3-chloropicolinates, or dialkyl pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylates in good yields, depending on the reaction conditions.

Carbonylation of 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine and 2-(chloromethy)-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine

Abstract The preparation of pyrimidine-2-carboxylates and 2-pyrimidineacetates by alkoxycarbonylation of respectively 2-chloropyrimidine and 2-(chloromethyl)pyrimidine with carbon monoxide in the presence of palladium acetate and 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene is described. The new process uses readily available starting materials and affords the corresponding esters in good yields.
