Line-by-line pulse shaping control for optical arbitrary waveform generation

Z. Jiang; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

We demonstrate line-by-line pulse shaping control for optical arbitrary waveform generation (O-AWG). Independent manipulation of individual spectral lines from a mode-locked frequency comb leads to synthesis of user-specified ultrafast optical waveforms with unprecedented frequency resolution.

Reconfigurable all-optical code translation in spectrally phase-coded O-CDMA

Z. Jiang; Dongsun Seo; D. E. Leaird; Rostislav V. Roussev; Carsten Langrock; Martin M. Fejer; Andrew M. Weiner

Reconfigurable all-optical code translation are demonstrated in a spectrally phase-coded optical-code-division multiple-access (O-CDMA) testbed with an interference user. For both one-stage and two-stage code translations, less than 0.9-dB power penalties are induced at each code translation. Multistage code translations are investigated via simulation and experimental emulation in a loop pulse shaper to show the potential application of the proposed method for up to several tens of code translations.

Spectral line-by-line pulse shaping

Z. Jiang; Daniel E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

We experimentally demonstrate spectral line-by-line pulse shaping. The shaped pulses overlap in time, which leads to observable fluctuations due to comb-offset frequency variations. Preliminary results of arbitrary waveform generation based on this technique are also presented.

The Impact of Frequency Comb Stability on Optical Arbitrary Waveform Generation

Chen-Bin Huang; Z. Jiang; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

Optical arbitrary waveform generation using the line-by-line pulse shaping technique provides a tool for examining optical frequency stability via time-domain waveform interference. Physical pictures and theoretical modeling results using time and frequency-domain approaches are provided

Optical Arbitrary Pulse Train Generation via Spectral Line-by-Line Pulse Shaping

Z. Jiang; Chen-Bin Huang; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

We demonstrate optical arbitrary pulse generation using spectral line-by-line shaping on a mode-locked fiber laser. The pulse train within each period can be independently controlled as specified.

5-GHz optical arbitrary waveform generation using > 100 independently controlled spectral lines from a compressed phase-modulated CW laser comb

Chen-Bin Huang; Z. Jiang; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

We demonstrate high-fidelity optical arbitrary waveform generation via spectral line-by-line shaping on more than 100 spectral comb lines selected from a compressed phase-modulated CW laser frequency comb with 5 GHz line spacing.

Multi-user, 10 Gb/s spectrally phase coded O-CDMA system: two implementations

Z. Jiang; Dongsun Seo; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

We have experimentally demonstrated 4-user, 10 Gbit/s spectrally phase coded O-CDMA using low power nonlinear processing in two implementations, with emphasis on different coding schemes and requirements of timing coordination.

Low power 4/spl times/10 Gb/s O-CDMA system using a double Hadamard code based spectral phase correlator

Z. Jiang; Dongsun Seo; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner; Carsten Langrock; Rostislav V. Roussev; M. M. Fejer

We demonstrate a 4/spl times/10 Gb/s spectrally phase coded O-CDMA system with ultra-low power (/spl sim/ 30 fJ/bit). Full interference suppression is achieved using a spectral phase correlator based-on SHG in a PPLN waveguide and double Hadamard coding.

Femtosecond Optical Pulse Generation using Line-by-Line Shaping on a Phase-Modulated CW Laser

Chen-Bin Huang; Z. Jiang; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

We demonstrate generation of a high repetition rate femtosecond pulse train using the line-by-line shaping technique on a phase-modulated CW laser. Resulting pulses with FWHM duration of 324 fs at 9 GHz repetition rate are reported after soliton compression

Investigation of Impact of Optical Comb Stability on Optical Arbitrary Waveform Generation via Line-by-Line Pulse Shaping

Chen-Bin Huang; Z. Jiang; D. E. Leaird; Andrew M. Weiner

A phase-modulated CW laser is used to emulate and investigate time-domain waveform noise observed in line-by-line pulse shaping of a mode-locked laser with optical frequency fluctuations
