Water Information Access ‘Communication Pack’: To Know Is to Care

Information is the first step to solutions towards awareness of the need for improved water management. Recognizing the right information to be communicated well to the community and the general public is invaluable in order to change behaviour and attitude for better and sustainable water quality and supply. The type of information and how this information is disseminated to the community need to be given considerable attention. This chapter focuses on water information access (WIA) and the framework in developing its ‘communication pack’ to be taken into consideration when communicating water issues to the public. It presents the framework or methodological research design that was adopted in designing the framework of the ‘water information access’ (WIA). The project identifies the prioritized information and the relevant communication methods that are needed to raise water information awareness among the community. These findings were incorporated in the WIA carnival in its aims to educate and promote water information awareness to the community.

Jaringan Komunikasi dan Media: Satu Analisis dari Perspektif Keselamatan Insan (Communication and Media Network: An Analysis from Human Security Perspectives)

Berakhirnya era Perang Dingin bukan sahaja telah mengubah landskap politik dunia tetapi ia juga telah mengubah pemahaman tentang teori hubungan antarabangsa. Malah, teori hubungan antarabangsa mula menumpukan kepentingan kelangsungan hidup insan di samping kelangsungan dan keselamatan negara. Mutakhir ini, perkembangan pesat teknologi maklumat melalui jaringan komunikasi turut memberi kesan terhadap keselamatan insan. Gerakan massa di Mesir dan Syria, adalah antara contoh bagaimana akses terhadap teknologi maklumat dan media, memberi kesan sebaliknya terhadap masyarakat. Adakah perkembangan jaringan komunikasi semestinya baik untuk keselamatan insan dan kelangsungan hidup? Adakah pendekatan keselamatan komprehensif yang diterima pakai oleh banyak negara di Asia Tenggara tidak sesuai sebagai kerangka melindungi rakyatnya? Berdasarkan kajian kes di Tunisia, Mesir dan Syria, makalah ini menganalisa bagaimana akses terhadap jaringan komunikasi dan maklumat yang baik boleh memberi kesan pada keselamatan insan, dan mengapa konsep keselamatan insan dilihat lebih sesuai dalam konteks hubungan antarabangsa. Artikel ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif dan analisa kandungan dengan merujuk dokumen primer dan sekunder seperti laporan rasmi, buku dan jurnal akademik untuk menerangkan konsep dan isu-isu keselamatan insan. Walaupun kajian ini memberi tumpuan terhadap aspek teori, dapatan kajian memaparkan kes empirik. Adalah diharapkan kajian ini akan menyumbang kepada pemahaman mengenai isu-isu keselamatan dan teori hubungan antarabangsa secara khusus berdasarkan jaringan komunikasi dan media. Malay and Malaysia Hits on the Australian Universities E-Library: A Recommendation to Australian National University (ANU)

Problem statement: The importance of knowledge sharing and information retrieval has stimulated each university in Australia to develop e-library. This would assist students, researchers, scholars and intellectuals to access materials for purpose of their assignments, study and research. In order to assist ANU to increase their collection in Malaysian Studies, this study intends to examine important factors needed for ANU to revamp their strategies for establishing a Global Malaysian Studies Network (GMSN). Approach: This study uses 12 search engines on e-library from 12 universities in Australia to get hits results on Malay and Malaysia collection. Results: The highest results of the hits have shown factors that need to be discussed as recommendations to ANU to adopt an alternative strategy to proliferate their collection in Malaysian Studies. Conclusion: ANU needs further efforts to strengthen its capability in becoming a one stop center in Malaysian Studies.

Global Malaysian Studies Network: A Proposal to Australian National University

Problem statement: Global Malaysian Studies Network (GMSN) is an idea proposed to Australian National University (ANU) in setting up its Malaysian Studies. Currently, there are a number of academic institutions which have established its Malaysian Studies. However, there have been problems and restraints where some research institutes have failed to effectively deliver such studies and in turn drives institute to shift to the other studies which promise good students and research funds. With the aim to assist ANU, this study has explored the potential on the development aspect of ANU to look into it particularly. Approach: Through the development of other institutions where information is available on the internet, this study inspects all documents to investigate the problems of other research institutes with regard to their offerings in Malaysian studies to propose a more structured planned strategy for ANU to set up GMSN. Results: There are three elements which appear as the fundamental areas for ANU to establish GMSN; academic, governance and networking. These three elements are crucial in order to develop the GMSN at its initial stage. Conclusion: A combination and integration of academic, governance and networking will position GMSN at ANU as a world class research institute in Malaysian Studies.
