Purpose – The purpose of this present study is to find a scientific method for the evaluation of environmental impacts according to the requirement 4.3.1.Design/methodology/approach – To realize the objectives, the authors worked with a representative sample from certified ISO 14001 organizations. The data aim to identify and evaluate (according to the organizations methodology) significant environmental impacts. In this study, the authors created two models for the evaluation of environmental impacts based on an artificial neural network applied in the pilot organization and compared the results obtained from these models with those obtained by applying an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. AHP is part of an multi‐criteria decision making method and provides good multi‐criteria support for decision making for problems that can be structured hierarchically.Findings – This paper presents a new approach that uses a backpropagation neural network to evaluate environmental impacts regardless of the org...

The natural and cultural heritage of the Lake Skadar/Shkodra basin require the implementation of an efficient management system at the level of the whole lake for the purpose of its continuous protection and the valorization of this unique ecosystem. In this study, we have suggested that there is no difference between the Lake Shkoder Basin Management Strategy (LSBMS) and the Integrated Lake Basin Management (ILBM) which is widely accepted today as a guideline for the achieving of the sustainable management of lake basins. In this chapter, we have reviewed the relevant national and international documents about Lake Skadar such as the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for Lake Skadar/Shkodra to analyze the current management plans of the lake and basin according to the six governance pillars of ILBM (institutions, policies, participation, technology, information, and finance).

The paper presents the results of tests and analysis of strength of traditional Montenegrin chair using FEM (The Finite Element Method) according to the procedure described in the relevant European standards. Stresses in the critical points of the structure were obtained and compared with values of permissible stresses for appropriate material. The influence of design parameters of chair on distribution and intensity of the stresses was considered, so it was selected the appropriate combination of parameters that presents the optimal solution from the aspect of the mentioned criterion. The obtained solution is compared with a volume equivalent model of usual chair with four legs. Based on the results we trained neural network in order to make it enable selection of design parameters of the traditional Montenegrin chairs that provide a satisfactory solution

The paper is a result of research at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Podgorica and represents the aspiration of authors to combine scientific and technical experience in order to achieve improvement in a real system. It is a complex system of lock chambers in a hydroelectric power plant. Based on a detailed analysis of the initial state, through the process modeling of complex real system, the authors identify possible areas where the intervening and applying modern systems with greater flexibility is necessary to achieve higher levels of automation. Also, proposed in the paper are measures for ensuring the security of information that rise system performance to a higher level compared to the competition and create an advantage in the global market.

The aim of this research was to analyse the level of management maturity in Polish and Montenegrin organisations as well as to explore best practices in improvement, innovation, and learning (one of the key elements of the management maturity model). The self-assessment model used in the research was based on the ISO 9004:2009 maturity model. Four organisations were selected for the study: two Polish and two Montenegrin. In all the selected companies, the level of management maturity according to the ISO 9004 model was assessed as above average. The implementation and certification of international management standards allowed maturity to be assessed at the third level. A higher rank in management maturity requires additional improvements in the management system. The results of the analysis suggest that Polish organisations have more opportunities to raise funds for improvement and innovation. Both Polish companies are beneficiaries of EU funds. These funds play an important role in innovation and learning processes (e.g. e-learning programmes). In the Polish companies, the online staff training system is very popular and well assessed, and was recognised as the difference between the Polish and Montenegrin organisations. All the researched organisations emphasised the importance of staff training for management system improvement. The most significant difference between the Polish and Montenegrin organisations lies in innovation, which is more developed in the Polish companies.

monitoring tools condition in real time is of utmost importance in contemporary production systems. The paper presents experimentally established correlations between torque, as a reliable bearer of tool wear information, and influential parameters in drilling steel of high hardness and strength (tempered steel). On the grounds of the established correlations, regression analysis was applied to result in a mathematical model which describes torque as the function of force.
