Monitoring of cutting chatter in metal cutting process is a very important economical consideration in automated manufacturing. However, the metal cutting process is a complicated process. The cutting chatter is still an unsolved problem in metal cutting process. In this paper, a new method for cutting chatter monitoring is developed. First, it uses fast Fourier transform (FFT) to process the monitoring signals of the cutting process and to extract the feature vectors. Then, it uses the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) as the classifiers to recognize the cutting chatter. The experimental results show that the proposed method is feasible and effective.

According to the major CDIO training program of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation in Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Guangzhou University, based on the comprehensive curriculum in the traditional Theoretical Mechanics and Mechanical Theory, the course of Mechanism Analysis and Design is created, its contents are kinematics, dynamics, mechanism analysis and design, project-driven teaching methods is used, students are allowed to experience the full process of conceive, design, implementation, the combination of theory and practice is emphasized to enhance students’ ability of creative design.

The finned surface can increase the specific surface area, which could enhance the boiling efficiency of the working medium to realize the enhancement of heat transfer performance. This research adopted a step punching method to form a radial microgroove structure on the surface of a copper plate. The scanning electron microscopy analysis indicates that when the pressed metal is in the deformation range, it will flow under extrusion and is subject to the reaction force from the metal outside the deformation range, so a micro-finned structure nearby the punching tool is formed. And the deformation area of the formed microgroove is higher than the workpiece’s primitive surface. The relationships of the punching interference length Li with θc, ac, and αpt are analyzed; and the influence of forming parameters on the groove surface morphology as well as the relationships among these parameters are discussed. When the punching depth ac is 0.3 mm and the punching feeding angle θc is 2°–4°, the finned surface of the radial V-shaped microgrooves can be obtained.

This paper describes the basic concepts of engineering education model-CDIO, and put forward development and excogitation of the practice project based on CDIO education model. Meanwhile, requirements involved in the practice project and works in each stage are expounded. Additionally, the practice project broke the traditional instruction model with roles of students and teachers changed significantly. Precisely, students are demanded to design and accomplish tasks in the project independently to turn the traditional passive education to the self innovation, excogitation and implementation mode. Thus, engineering and technical personnel, who are needed by corporations and possess professional skills, social awareness, and entrepreneur sensitivity, are cultivated.

The importance and necessity of the construction of the CDIO engineering laboratory are elaborated firstly. Then, knowledge impartment and capability cultivation are combined through reference in the CDIO teaching philosophy and the guiding ideology of the educational reform, which is coordinated growth of knowledge, ability, and quality of students. The experimental teaching reform of the major-Machine design manufacture and its automation is taken as an example. Moreover, it is introduced that in recent three years, the featured major of the Ministry of Education-Machine design manufacture and its automation in Guangzhou University acquired a significant progress in the construction and design of the CDIO engineering laboratories. And Guangzhou University has formed its characteristics and advantages gradually. Meanwhile, the CDIO engineering laboratories enhance the quality of education and students give positive feedback to the environment of the site.

Requirement of image recovery in IC detection is rising. IC noise image recovery technology based on three-dimensional energy optimization modeling and surface fairing is investigated. By spatial vector’s deduction of image’s noise point, modeling and fairing of IC image noise’s surface from three-dimensional information is achieved. Through surface extraction and fairing that smooth image plane can be obtained. Thus image recovery process is finished. Experiment and comparison prove that clear and stable IC recovery image can be gotten.

Energy absorption structure is important in vehicle passive safe protection, which can absorb the energy as vehicle collision to protect the passenger safety. In this paper, a new type of vehicle energy absorption structure with hydraulic pressure for automotive of middle-mounted and rear-mounted engine, and numerical simulation to optimize for structure of hydraulic energy absorption structure with dynamics mesh technology. The results show that the through-hole structure and opened press is optimized, when the diameter of through hole is 12-14mm, and the opening pressure of the check valve is 5000-6000Pa, the absorbing energy structure being made of the piston cylinder could have good effect.
