In this paper a new concept intelligent green ship is introduced, which can go around the world without any fuel and can be used in a variety of environment. There are two problems to be discussed. One is the ship type. The ship type is adopted with a high performance ability which let the boat can be used in any complex sea condition. In fact, this vehicle is based on a trimaran but keeps the third body hiding under the water, which does the greatest help in improving the stability. The other problem is the use of natural power for propulsion and controlling. Considering the limitation of the solar energy, the wind is used as the main power for propulsion and the solar energy is considered as the auxiliary power for controlling and communication. Our sailing system is an automatic sailing system which can adjust the sail angle according to the wind direction and the sea flow direction. in this way, the sailing system can be used more easily and more widely. The paper will also discuss the detail about the ship shape design, the resistance prediction, the wind force prediction, the control strategy, the system design, the result from simulation and a prototype ship test. The low resistance ship type and the self-controlling sailing system are supposed to be used in ordinary commercial ship to reduce the use of fuel.

This article mainly discusses the model and software package for calculating ship reliability. Combining the fault tree analysis (FTA) method with multi-stage numerical simulation, the authors discussed the model and software package that can be used to calculate various parameters of ship reliability, such as mission reliability, operation readiness, etc. Further, the authors apply multi-stage numerical simulation into systems analysis and provide a new method to evaluate the reliability of repairable systems. An example of calculating the mission reliability of a submarine is given at the end.
